This movie has (in tons of places besides this excerpt) far too many dramatizations to make it a good thing to watch. Beria was arrested on 26 June 26, 1953, and was not shot until six months later, December 23.
@@yivanov82 With thanks for your time, those rumors are typical of the general form of "no one really uses their brain about it at all" rumors that the Soviets, and now the slaves of Muscovy - both populations utterly accustomed, for generations, to being starved of anything but lies - accept without even a shrug. Just like these days: "Ukraine is full of Nazis!!! And Europe is supporting Nazis!!!" In this example - a Beria-body-double rumor - it is a zero-brain rumor simply because using a body double would have been utterly unnecessary. All the coup-ists would have needed to say was that Beria shot at the arresting personal, and left no one any choice but to shoot back. Nikita and his friends had far more urgent things to take care of than engaging in such a potentially embarrassing charade. You might benefit from reading the wikipedia article on Beria; one sees that when he was finally tried, his scads of rapes (and *their* associated murders) were (a) absolutely common knowledge among the Soviet elite, and (b) not even among the charges. If it had been a body-double, they would certainly have had him singing _those_ confessions. So, for reasons like these, the body-double rumor is just another zero-brain rumor, not in the slightest worth repeating.
I bet all the power mad and corrupt would go out the same way crying and begging when the dogs turn on them. That rap sheet can apply to many at the top
This is Russia! I love how they still consider it necessary to read the accusation, verdict and sentence in one go. Nowadays, they use more nerve gases and radioactive substances, but good old Makarov lead is certainly indispensable - we really have no idea what's going on in that biggest country in the world.
Observe all those attending Beria's "Trial" didn't react when he was accused of furthering the interests of foreign powers against the USSR. They knew that was a lie. But once the long list of rape and child molestation were mention, it struck a deep cord in them, because they knew it was true, and he was a monster. The Soviets may have been die-hard commies, but they where still human to be absolutely disgusted and enraged against rape and child abuse.
A neat detail here is that they're using original model AK-47s, not the cheaper stamped AKM that everyone is more familiar with. The AKM hadn't been produced at this point, but the AK-47 was starting to be rolled out, though in surprisingly small numbers considering how ubiquitous the AKM would become.
Fun fact: in the wake of Stalin's death, Beria came forward with outrageously liberal proposals in order to secure power - I guess via populist support. These included Freedom of expression, freedom to travel within the union, freedom of religious belief and others.
I'm a Hungarian. And close to my 70s. So I have direct memories on the Soviet System since I spent 35 years in the Communist-era in Hungary AND under Soviet occupation. And I was in the Sovietunion, in Moscow and in Leningrad at that time (tourism, language training from the university in 1979). This film is PERFECT!!! Again: P E R F E C T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It should be taught in the secondary schools minimum!!!! That was the life at that time there (and still the same in 1979 too!!) - the film perfectly depicts that millieu!! Gratulations and great respect to the creators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beria was Dangerous. He had whe whole Red Army (2 million soldiers) in his pocket, 3/4 of the NKVD's member under his command and all of Stalin's secret documents (plus some private documents he acquired that could make any high-ranked member of the USSR guilty of a crime and so a good reason to kill anyone) If they didn't acted against him, he would have became even worse than Stalin
0:18 that’s how you know he’s a leader; he blindly gives that soldier HIS personal firearm, fully aware, knowing and confident that Mi General Zhukov commands every Red Army soldier’s respect and admiration. “General Zhukov is such chad he drinks vodka every night” aaand it was clear Coca Cola Ike sent him alongside fishing tackles.
Beria is one of the most evil people to ever walk the Earth, and not enough people know about him. Hundreds of thousands of innocent Russians murdered under his order in the basement of the Lubyanka and in gulags across the country.
The way they killed the party members soldiers so fast gave my grandmother genuine flashbacks, she used to work at the top echelon for Enver hoxha, the dictator of communist Albania. She said that when they got rid of someone, their personnel were also rounded up almost immediately just like this movie.
