Hi there! I got my Akubra Federation IV a couple of weeks ago and I have found myself using more my AdVintage. Something is off in the Akubra and I don't know what. I ordered a 60, and having a 59,3cm of head, the hat feels massive. I am using foam but the Crown looks TOO BIG, looks like the Hat was close to 61cm in size than the 60 that I asked for (and what the label says). The brim is shorter than the AdVintage and also the color is too dark for an Indy hat instead of a Sable color of the AdVintage (IMHO). I have tried to shrink the sweatband using water and blowing it with a Hair Dryer, same for the crown, but got no results. Do you have any tip? Just by wearing the hat will it shrink both the sweatband and crown to a true 60? Seriously, I can't believe that a 60 looks so big on me. My AdVintage is a 59 and I had to stretch it because my head hurt when wearing it, so can't understand this massive difference in sizes. Thank you so much for your videos and your time. Greetings!
when i made the comment about the grand union flag i wrote/said america would be more united if more knew about it. i believe if people outside taunton knew about the liberty and union flag america would be more united knowing about that. also i share info about it like w/. my grand union flag.
I agree completely! If people knew more about our history, they would be proud to be descendants of folks who overcame great obstacles so that we could have it so good today.
Looks a little like the Stetson Saxon my grand father wore.. It was a relatively narrow brimmed thin felt rabbit fur hat. If the felt is relatively thin, the brim won't handle rain or snow very well. That is a great find. Mild envy from the likes of me. :)
Thank you! Yes, this will definitely be a nice weather, casual wear piece. I’m in the process of trying to find out a little more information about the store that it came from.
@@HatLifeAdventures I almost bought a Stetson Saxon recently just because it was my grandfather's favourite hat. Then I learned how easily the brim will warp in a bit of rain or even high humidity, . Living in a city in a temperate rain forest, I got an Akubra instead. I am hoping the Selentino Sterling will not have that issue. I like Akubra but do not plan to collect them. Three is enough, for a while.
Yeah, I’ve been googling them. Found, “Ye Ol Country Store” that’s been a family owned business for decades. Might have to take a trip and see if they know anything.
@@HatLifeAdventures You can delete this comment after you read it. They kicked me off FB because because I made posts against "people" who encourage young impressionable children to mutilate their private parts.
@@HatLifeAdventures Yeah, they totally disabled my account. They said I had 180 days to appeal before it is permanently disabled. When I log in I can only see a message saying that I have appealed, but every time I log out It says, "Are you sure? You only have xx days left to appeal" as if I hadn't appealed. They also sent me two emails saying I hadn't completed the steps to appeal but the loop that I described above is the only thing I can experience when logged in. I think I'm down to about 90 days left maybe. I've sent two emails to what I believe are legitimate FB email addresses apologizing for breaking the community standards and explaining that I no longer want to make political posts, that I just want to keep up with family and friends and market my business, but no response. To add insult to injury they send me an email about every single post that any friend makes telling me that I'm missing things. I'm talking fifteen to twenty-five emails a day, every single day. Fortunately it is an old email address that I only check sporadically.

Very interesting, thanks. Straw hat weather is coming fast. I recently ordered a Sellentino in royal blue for only $220. Akubra did not have a colour I wanted.
Hello Kris congratulations on your great channel. Kris, I want to know how you make the fold in the brim of the hat at ear level have that square shape. Thank you in advance for your valuable response. Greetings from Mexico
Thank you! Unfortunately, I don’t seem to know what you mean about the fold in the brim. Are you referring to one of my hats or a cowboy style hat? I do have a hat shaping playlist, if you’re interested: ru-vid.com/group/PLw5dW-zM_ee1TyrTlyd-ipL8GdErcOOZb&si=sfVkvt-drrvdNY8l If this doesn’t help, let me know! Thank you for watching and your question! Kris
Just ordered one of these myself. It'll be my first "Indy" hat not counting the my Akubra, which is a tremendous approximation but doesn't quite have that exact right coloring.
@@HatLifeAdventures I'm excited about it! I've been an Indy guy forever, and a fedora guy for just as long because of it, but I've never been able to actually afford a full on Indy hat and just had to make do with your typical dorfman pacific offerings at the local stores. The Akubra Fed IV was my first chance to get a solid "Temple of Doom" style hat, as I'd call the Fed, but this will be my first time getting something that looks in color and shape just a touch more like the Raiders lid and that'll be a dream moment for sure!
Great video! I really like the look of the Hero Jr, it certainly is the most accurate looking wool felt Indy hat I have seen reviewed. If only they'd start selling those at the Disney parks, rather than the Dorfman Pacifics- Indy fans would probably rejoice 😆 Also, really nice shaping on the Fed IV, it looks great! Thanks for the awesome content!
Hey, Silas! This is absolutely the best wool version by far, appearance wise, in the same league as the Fed IV and Harrison. There’s just no comparison to the other wool offerings currently on the market. Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
Looks fantastic!!! I want one but the site is down. Do you know if the site will be back up? I wonder if they can get a 61 or 7 5/8. They had a store on Etsy but it’s gone.
You've got to buy 1 size up and pack with foam. The sweatband shrinks. For me, I measured 58 cm and a 58 felt good but the shop told me to get a 59. They packed behind the sweatband with adhesive foam strips. They told me the foam collapses and I could either leave it there or take it out later on.. Leaving your hat in a hot car will make it shrink too much.
Yes, I measure at a 57 but generally buy all my hats as 58s. I just sweat in mine a lot to get them to fit properly 🤣 Thank you for watching and sharing!
It’s an Akubra Federation IV from The Hattery in Katoomba, Australia. Hats Direct is their website. I love this hat: tough as nails and looks great, too. This is my fourth one: I have a grey, Fawn and two browns, the one in the video being a deluxe model. Here’s the full length version of the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pfhgVWpehqA.htmlsi=mOdXyWHWOpHX6f0k
In your opinion, which is the most accurate and cheap fedora hat from Indiana Jones? 😸 And on the other hand, do you think you could compare the HeroHatCo with the Advintage or the Federation, please? I would really appreciate it😸
In the next Chapter of “The Hero Jr. Saga” we will compare the Hero Jr. to the Fed IV, the Advantage Harrison and the Cotswold and we will use the Fedora 5000 and the Fedora 250 (aka micrometer)! As far as an accuracy/cost balance for appearance goes, I would say The Hero Jr. Then there are other factors such as material and ruggedness which come into play. You have given me a new idea!
He’s got a website up and running now, ready for orders! herohat.co/product/hero-jr-fedora/ Etsy took his shop down for some reason but now he’s good to go!
