Hello, everyone! Welcome to my humble House of Learning, a cozy little place of study, where we study game design, specifically Age of Empires IV. Come, stay a while, teach me or learn something new yourself!
Been binging aoe4 guides the past couple months trying to learn the game and your guides are by far the best I've stumbled across. Would love a guide on what you are looking for when scouting the enemy and how you decide your transition between feudal all in - 2tc or fast castle. keep up the great content! <3
I dont like it... I prefer advance faster and 1 tower in gold than having 2 production buildings..... better TC I like it... but I prefer having more gold for researching tecnologies from forge than having a upgraded TC... but is not bad because if some one rush you... yout upgraded TC is a good line of defense
You can do this if you are scouting the enemy actively and know they are not coming for you with a feudal rush. If they are going 2TC or fast castle you can do whatever you like. But if you are going naked fast castle and HRE shows up in your base with fully upgraded MAA and archers as you go castle, good luck trying to get any units out and keeping your villagers alive. Scouting is the key.
Thank you so much for these guides man. I have played RTS for a very long time but have been struggling with AoE4 due to like having to remember several different builds for each strategy for each civ. I've spent so much time trying to find exactly what this video and the 2 other Japanese videos are about. I had never played Japanese before seeing these videos but I've been playing the game so much more since I found them. I really hope you decide to keep making more of these flexible guides for beginners where you clearly explain the build order and how to think about transitioning into different strategies. Hopefully something for Rus or Abbasid or China/Xu Zhi next!
Im a bit late to the video, but what is best to do vs english? they usually build spears and archers which counter Japans archers and horsemen. Saurai arent countered as much but longbows can kite them fairly easily
I am not too familiar with this match-up. Have you tried Onna-Bugeisha? They should destroy spears and are fast enough to trade really well into Longbows. You may want to consider going Castle after defending the English push for Mounted Samurai, though.
@@housedoflearning Thanks for the suggestion. I've been practicing against an English player lately, and a combination of samurai with onnas can work quite well against them. Pure Onnas get wrecked by longbows unless I have a huge mass, which in the beginning of the game I find hard to out produce the longbows
Do you always go food for feudal instead of market? Also whats the purpose of stacking 3 lumber camps so close? I mostly play with friends against AI. Is this good for that game type or more 1v1?
Sorry for the late reply! The market has been buffed after I made this build order. It is more viable now but I would still recommend going for food with the TMM. Stacking lumber camps makes it so your villagers don't have to walk as much which increases the time they spend gathering wood. It is always a good habit no matter with or against whom you play! :)
Would you consider showcasing your japanese buildorders in multiplayer matches? Would be greatly appreciated. Maybe commenting your own games as spectator? Thx!
bro we need more of your educational videos! Please build one for Ayyibids for the next series and also please address how to use "Tower of the Sultan" if its effective or not and also a Ghulam rush
It may be safer to place mill next to tc if going up against cavalry civs or english, coupled with a more defensive scouting pattern. Thanks for the video!!!
That is true. It would even lead to a slightly faster age up timing! If you don't expect to be able to defend your villagers on berries, this is a good adjustment.
Love the educational style of your videos! Just a small question, would it be possible for you to give us build order in a separate document or on a build order website as well, so we can replicate them easier without having to jump through the video each time?
Yes, I will look in to that. When I started, my channel was too small to be allowed to link anything in the description. That's why I have not done it yet.
How do i defend against Order of the Dragon feudal MAA rush. those guys are so beefy, i cant find a counter unit with this build?? I've played this twice with my friend and cant seem to defend against a fast gilded MAA rush from OotD =(
I have honestly never played against this strategy but have you tried instead of the early barracks to build an outpost on your gold and maybe a few small walls on your wood line? Then you can put your Yorishiro in an Archery Range and make Onna-Musha. Alternatively, you could make a stable instead of the early barracks and go with 1 Uma Bannerman and a few horsemen.
@@housedoflearning i can try that, i appreciate it! do you think horsemen and a bannerman would fair better against those gilded MAA's? sometimes i wish AOE4 had a test mode or practice mode where we can test units against one another.
Please help, how do i counter early gilded MAA's against OotD with this build? at 5:30-6:00 he already has 1/2 of these beefy guys and early samurai or onna bugeisha's die to them. how can i counter a rush and steady flow of their gilded MAA's with this build?
If you scout aggression, you can choose to build one at 4:55 in game (6:19 in video). In this example, I choose to build a barracks instead. If there are no signs of an attack, you may skip both to reach castle even faster.
I just picked up AoE4 a few days ago, been looking for videos like this for base game civs, do you have any plans to do something like that? From what i've seen, most of the base game civs only have videos/guides that are 6months to 1 year old (atleast to this level on quality and explanation.)
You said “we decide to go fast castle because we scouted the opponents base”. What do you mean by this, what exactly did you see in their base that made us choose this path? Would love some kind of flowchart to tell us whether we should go down that path or 2TC
Great question! I am actually considering to start a series going in depth on concepts like this. The issue is that there is a lot of context required to make these kinds of decisions and a flow chart might become overly complicated. In general, though, there are three things to look out for when scouting at 4-5 minutes: Is my opponent on stone? -> 2TC If I like my chances in late game, I can also go 2TC. Is my opponent heavy on gold (4+)? -> Fast Castle In most cases, I want to go FC, too. Is my opponent making military? -> Feudal Attack Make counter units until you win a fight, then return to your initial plan. For Japanese, specifically, I'd recommend Fast Castle as your go-to plan.
Really enjoyed this as someone getting back into the game. Actually enjoyed all 3 of your Japan Guide Videos. Have you ever thought about uploading gameplay, so we can see the builds in action?
