Very nice sounding instrument. I have a Korean-made Washburn J-6 Montgomery and really love how it sounds too. I think its sound is fairly similar to your J-10, although mine actually has Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P90 pickups. It's quite responsive and dynamic, which suits my predilections well.

Thanks for the fabulous video; within 5 seconds I had heard exactly what i've been hoping to find - and I've been searching for years! Can you please clarify though: those strings sound like flat wound but, in one of your replies you suggest otherwise. Whatever string you are using in this video, that's what I will be getting so I'd really appreciate it if you could put me out of my misery!

Thanks for your kind comment, I do appreciate it. I do use flat-wound strings but only on my electric jazz guitars. On acoustics like this Loar I use D'Addario Phosphor Bronze round-wound acoustic strings, 12-52 gauge. If I'm feeling extra generous, sometimes I'll treat myself to a set of Elixir acoustic strings which have a nano-web coating. They sound just like these and have a slightly smoother feel. They do last much longer but they're quite expensive in comparison. Hope that helps?

GOLD! Accidentally came across this while surfing YT. Used to follow @ditdacoms around Bristol UK back in circa 1980/81 when Jon played in a rock band called Gold - still have a couple of their tapes which I bought off Jon back then - it was a gig at Tiffany's I seem to recall. First heard about Jon when he auditioned for a school mate's band (but was too good for them, so they politely declined his joining!). So glad you pursued a musical career. You inspired me to take up guitar in 1980, but I didnt really have the time to play when post-school life got in the way. After semi-retirin in 2018, I decided to give it another go and bought a Gibson Les Paul (to be like Jimmy Page!), but my journey has taken me down the jazz route (my Dad was a jazzer, playing clarinet in The Panama Jazz Band)... so watching Jon again after all these years is FANTASTIC, especially as his (your) leanings re now that way. 🤟

That honey-sunburst is gorgeous. I wish there were more archtops with that coloring, I'm not a fan of brown-burst. And Washburn!? Whodda thunk it. Of course, MIJ explains it.

i have a peerless monarch that i got rid of the floating pickup, i carved a hole and insert a classic 57. dosent sound like an L5 but i can get a kinda. lol its nearest i could get , lots of fun diging it. L5 is an awsome guitar, thanks for sharing

Yes, you don’t really need an expensive guitar to sound great. I think it's at least 90% down to the player. Also, these days, there's a lot of really fine guitars, like your Peerless, for quite reasonable prices. That wasn't so much the case when I was starting out. This video's quite old now. These days I favor a Gibson Paul Jackson jnr. Very nice guitar. Compact but has a huge jazz sound.

I don't know where they ended up. I think he had more than one and that one was nearly destroyed in a fire. Gibson restored it in 1998 apparently.

There was NO LAWSUIT. Stop perpetuating the lie. Gibson threatened to sue, and Ibanez wised up. And of course - Ibanez went on to become a world class guitar maker that rivaled Gibson.

@ditdacoms
@ditdacoms 2 года назад
@@chrispile3878 There's an interesting comment from GretschenMunch on here from about two years back. It expands on the history in, what I think, is a meaningful way. I actually sold this guitar several years back now. It fetched about 9 times what I'd paid for it which, adjusted for inflation, was about the same as its new price versus a genuine Gibson L-5 back when it was first sold. I used it a lot for solo jazz guitar gigs including two years at Harvey's Restaurant in Bristol UK; adjacent to Harvey's Wine Cellars (both now sadly closed) purveyors of the world famous Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry. It had a lovely, liquid, sound and it earned its keep.

@@ditdacoms I have no doubt it's a fine axe. I am quite the Ibanez fanboy myself, with a number of collectable Ibanez guitars and basses from the late 70's, 80's, and 90's right up to a number of recent offerings. No matter the value, they've all proven to be worthy players - even the little Gio Mikro line of guitars and basses. Dependable, rugged, and fun - a great legacy of musical gear.

Hallo , what strings do you recommend ?
@ditdacoms
@ditdacoms 3 года назад
I use D'Addario Chromes 12-52 on my electric guitars and D'Addario Phospher Bronze 13-56 on my acoustics. I practice on acoustic mostly so the electric feels really easy after that. I think that playing acoustic helps with precision and tone but everybody has their own way they like to do things.
