My son’s in 5th grade and shooting the 3 ball very well. Forms not perfectly proper yet. I have been encouraging him to shoot cause he’s been doing it so well and kids in that grade sag off. I started him close for last two years and then back to middys then the 3 came. Should I let him take a few in games and open gyms just want your opinions appreciate this channel always tuning in. And yes we do work on it!

Having coached both with and without the shot clock, I prefer it. Rarely does any team run out of time. And scoreboard operators are easily able to keep up.

I heard Kobe Bryant talk about that and how it would always show who had the best basketball mind. The second you take out dribbling skills a lot of players stall out. Its one of my favorite things to do in practice. We also warm up with "25 passes" to work on the pivot, chinning, etc. Teams of 5 play halfcourt & need to pass it 25 times to win, here's the trick, after eaxh pass they need to call out the number of passes they have (talking on the court) AND have to touch baseline (movement after the pass). It also teaches spacing as if an off ball defender is brought to the player with the ball, they can double.

I’m coaching my little brother’s Primary (elementary) team because they were struggling. They were 4 games into the season losing to 40+ points while they score only like 3 buckets 😂😂before I joined. Now that I joined them we went really well on a 6 game winning streak while beating those teams they lost to. But now I’ve got a problem it’s going down hill back to square one. The teams gone comfortable and never listen to me anymore after those great games. Discipline gone out the door and never apply the things we go through at training compared to when I started with them . We lost our game last night 48-10 to a team we’ve already beaten. I know they’re just kids and I want them to have fun. idc if they lose only thing I want from them is improvement so they can carry it with them when they move on. Any advice coaches?

I’ve always taken strong leads(10 or more) to play my developing players as much as our lead will tolerate. Obviously leads are relative. + 10pts in 5th 6th grade is significant. As they progress itll depend on how dominant we are and if we can rebuild lead easily. You have to know your players and league.

Coach, when your team rebounds a missed shot and your wing players happen to be on the same side of the rim what is your rule for them to fill the lanes ? Should one of them cut across the court diagonaly to get to thier spot or should both of them run the same sideline and go to thier spots at the other end.

Quickness at the right time !!! That’s just it. Some coaches hate this. And will bench you. I was mvp and held more double triples etc from this exact method. Trust me it wasn’t lazy ness lol 😂
