i think even an 18.1 inch HE shell would over penetrate a destroyer. like, it would like like swiss cheese but unless hit underwater it would be fine. the crew tho… ehhh
I love military genre stuff and when I saw this video I thought this would be a good anime to watch but I when I saw that the ship was controlled by a bunch of little girls I punched my screen.
Since there's so many comments of modern naval weapons vs some WW2-era ship, I got slapped with a question after all these years, what would happen if we put a modern battlecruiser (Kirov-class at full capacity for example, no matter the amount) from any nation vs Musashi? Most of the comments focused on Destroyers and missiles or other weapons but I just got this idea.
I am not an expert but let me guess, any modern battlecruiser like the soviets Kirov-class ones would destroy musashi or any other WW2 battleship to atoms?
This would not really be true. As powerful the Musashi is, the modern class destroyers can easily outrun the shells. The main battery gunners would have a very hard time keeping up with the destroyers. Also, the amount of torpedoes the battleship took on its side would be enough to put a large hole into its side
@@The_LivingCreature it's implied that WWII might not have happened. All the ships that were supposedly have sunk in WWII are still afloat. There was the Admiral Graf Spee, some Kagerou-class Destroyers and the IJN Hiei.
@@Khaimonkey123 yep. Imagine sinking a ship filled woth high school students. There is obviously going to be som backlash and would ruin rhe JMSDF's image. It's like setting fire to a house with your loved ones inside. Also, all WWII ships in that anime have been modernised and retrofitted. Some of their upgrades incluce better fire control, modern radar, better armour, etc. It is also hinted that WWII might not have occured in that anime's timeline, since some ships that were supposed to have sunk in WWII are still afloat. Yamato-class Battleships aside, there was also IJN Hiei, some Kagerou-class Destroyers, and even the german Deutschland-class Pocket Battleship; Admiral Graf Spee.

I’ll just put some logic here. A single anti ship missile from a frigate could destroy almost every WW2 era ship and only the biggest and strongest battleships and carriers could tank only one anti ship missile from a frigate while being heavily damaged and crippled as a result. Seriously! A sigma class frigates Anti Ship missile could absolutely destroy almost every single WW2 naval vessel with 1-2 shots! Only the aircraft carriers would need more shots being 3-4 and let’s not talk about how precise the AS missiles are! They could take out the enemy ships engines and artillery before they can even attack! How the hell did the crew on a modern destroyer lose to a WW2 battleship controlled by mind controlled high schoolers?!
It's a stupid anime. An unknown virus carried by rats that mind controls the anime girls, making them hostile, while also having the ability to make all electronics within a 30 mile radius malfunction. A fucking virus that makes people crazy and act as an EMP. And what's the cure, SEAWATER! of course it's fucking seawater, so we can get a scene where anime girls are skinny dipping in the fucking sea!
considering it took an absolute shitstorm of ordinance, over several hours, to sink the Japanese battleships in WWII, EVEN while targeting their weak spots, it's not gonna happen. Also, modern anti-ship weapons are adapted to modern light armor. Peak WWII Battleships had enough toughness to take a hit from a fortress-buster and keep floating. If you start integrating modern CIWS anti-missile defenses, which can accurately intercept even smaller projectiles, you'd never get a heavy ordinance missile anywhere close.
@@dudejo yeah now that I think about it most missiles can’t penetrate the armor but still. If we don’t give the WW2 battleship something like CIWS systems it’s toast. Like what I said modern AS missiles are accurate enough to easily target the ships cannons before it can return fire while also outranging it. That and missile attacks on the deck could also cause critical damage to the ships crew and just cause overall chaos on board with 0 way of counterattack
@@Z5-XB On the Yamato battleships, the turrets have thicker armor than even the main hull. Unless you hit the gun itself, you're not disabling anything. You're going to expend a lot of ammunition trying to accomplish such a precise hit (and missiles aren't cheap). As for the deck, even that has an appreciable armor thickness. Don't forget that those decks endured hours of ordinance raining down during WWII. Possibly more ordinance than a modern FLEET could carry without breaking the bank.
@@dudejook so be it. Still one more think can have modern battleships win this. Anti ship torpedos. 2 WW2 era Anti ship torpedos sunk the German Bismarck. While yes the Bismarck was weaker then the Musashi by a long shot still torpedos usually explode underneath the main armor of a ship to deal more damage to the less protected areas. That and still. A modern naval vessel has far more range and can take out a ship like the Yamato or Musashi with multiple torpedos.
I love how many people here argue that a modern destroyer could kill a Yamato class BB outside of visual range. That is true under normal circumstances, but this isn't normal. 1. the Yamato class ships in this anime have been retrofitted and modernized, granting them modern radar and fire control. 2. Nowadays torpedoes aren't designed to penetrate torpedo bulges, and the torpedo warheads are likely smaller than the torpedo bombers used in WWII. 3. if people had watched the anime instead of just clips on RU-vid, they would have known that modern missiles and tracking didn't work because of an anomaly(an infected rat), somehow, this doesn't affect the Yamato's system, only the modern destroyers. This stuff is from memory, so feel free to correct me if I made a mistake somewhere.
Modern warships, especially destroyers, rely less and less on torpedoes and guns and more on advanced anti-ship missiles. Even so, their torpedoes and guns are significantly more advanced and even the five-inch gun mounts on a modern destroyer would have the accuracy and rate of fire to cripple the musashi before it has a chance to guide its rounds onto target
I wonder how much this comment section would be cut down if people actually read the synopsis of the anime to understand what is actually going on and why the destroyers aren't just blasting the Musashi to death.
This is so dumb. There's no a way an archaic ww-2 battle ship can outgun mutiple destroyers and out tank multipe direct hits from modern day missles/torpedos.
