I love this show. We are planning to bring it to San Francisco at Christmas this year. I actually think the music is slightly better than the original (Charlie Strouse was in better form for this one). Only sorta big problem is that DW is really too old for Grace and that does have a certain creep element to it. We are going to try to get a gender switch approval from MTI and the authors to make the Tennessee kid a boy instead of a girl. My favorite song in the show is the Commissioner's song Above the Law. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-swCh6yO6UEQ.html
People always bash this show. I think this musical has some very beautiful and sophisticated music in it. My only gripe with the show is the title. I think they should have called it Annie 2: Finding Grace. I feel it is just as much Grace's story as it is Annie's...plus it's a play on the word grace. I think the story is really about Warbucks seeing the wonderful woman who is right under his nose the entire time...and the journey that brings a suitable mother for Annie. Just my thoughts :-) I do love this song.
There had already been an attempt at a show called Annie 2 which flopped in Washington DC out of town after 36 performances. I think they may have been constrained by that version to NOT call it Annie 2. Its hard to believe that people don't get the connection to Annie with the title and logo (which includes Annie, Warbucks and Sandy).
It would have been wonderful Just given the chance It would have been bumpy at first But it would have turned into a dance A miracle thing like the spring as you feel new beginings begin Only wonderful is what it would have been It would have had character It would have had spine And over the course of the years Maybe tears, maybe his, maybe mine. It would have meant work Love needs work or it's no longer love that your in Only wonderful is what it would have been. Walking in the rain Giving Chinese food a try Missing that last train Retying his tie But so much for miracles They happen in plays In life people meet, people touch, people think Then go their separate ways They give up a joy That's as splendid as anything under the sun It would have been wonderful It would have been wonderful It would have been wonderful Had it only begun.
Do you have any of her full performances? I saw her in Wicked in 2015 and watched lots of videos of her on youtube afterwards, but now they all seem to be gone...
I just finished doing this show and one of my best friends was Grace. She broke my heart every time she sang this song, she was PERFECT for the part!!!
She sounds great. I hear just a hint of tiredness in her voice but that's expected when you come back from an injury, I'm sure her energy will be back in no time
I'm not an expert in terms of singing but does anybody else besides me thinks that she lost a little bit control of her voice during the "look to the western sky" segment?
