This is the old Nest Protect, it has a different tune on the new Nest Protect, and says the version even slower than the old one. It still counts to 4.
Everything is different in this version of the Nest Protect even the voice instead of the OG version and the old one counts from 10 by talking but on the new one it counts by 4 by beeping but the new one lies if it counts from 5
How to factory reset the smoke alarm ( 2nd Gen ) 1. Press and Hold the middle button 2. Wait for the chime and listen for the version number 3. Listen to the chime countdown to 4 4. Nest will erase all settings after the chime 5. If your ready, press the button to test alarm!
I absolutely love that new voice and countdown. These things also silent test themselves daily and they light up green at night telling you that they silent tested and they’re working fine. These are some very futuristic alarms!
What I wonder is, if we turn off pathlight, will it still work in emergencies? It’s annoying in my bedroom but obviously if there’s a fire I want it to work.
The pathway light has nothing to do with it going off for a fire emergency. It is just a feature so that it can light your path in a dark hallway at night for example
google truly has googlfied this product. I remember back when they would just constantly go off for no reason and your entire house turns into chaos. I hate that new voice, though. Why did they need to change it? the other one sounded better, and this new one is quite literally the stock voice you hear on EVERY google product. (It's google assistant's voice.)
A tip of how you can do it without removing the battery: Press the button once, but instead of pressing it again press and hold it, and it will say "checking the network, just a moment" and immediately release the button. Don't hold the button down any longer otherwise it will erase all settings. Then it will do the "hi" message.
BUYER BEWARE - Note that the devices have a maximum usable life of 10-years from date of manufacture. Google Store recently shipped me 3x of these devices that were over 2-years old (i.e. only 8-years of usable life left), yet charged me the full price. This makes the device some 20% more expensive given the shorter lifespan. They said they'd replace them with new units and promptly sent me 3x replacements that were 14-months old! Totally unacceptable and pricing is already considerable. My suggestion is only buy from a store where you can check the serial number (the manufacture date is only printed on the device itself - hidded until you open box). However, the Serial Number tells you when it was manufactured (digits 9&10=Week #, digits 11&12=Year) and a quick way to ensure you're not paying good money for stock that is well past its 'sell by date'
