Nice Job! I set my PR at the MCM 10 years ago and without a doubt it was the best organized race I have ever done, can't wait to run it again some day.
Good effort mate, great that you finished in memory for your brothers. I'm a uk veteran and this time of year is always for remerance, gone but never forgotten
Found this while looking for info on this race last week. Ran the MCM 10k yesterday myself, hopefully your full went well, temps were on point at race start, and to the finish on the 10k.
First version indeed needs a break in period, about 90km. I like the cushion of the midsole now but they have a narrow toe box (especially at the pinky toe) and a not so breathable upper. Hope SB2 is better in that two particular areas.
Just about to head off in two days and get gyno removed after debating it for about 3-4 years. Thanks for the video makes me feel more comfortable! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
How good are these for off-road/trail runs? Nothing too technical, but basically dirt and rocks. I'm currently running in the Trabucos (Max 3 and Gel).
how did you end up liking carrying the water bottle? Have you tried the nathan hand held? It has a zipper pouch to put your gels in? I dont' love carrying stuff when I run, but you might like that option.
It was ok. The bottle got a little weird when it wasn't full. I have a Nathan water bottle with the handle but wanted a water bottle I could toss once it was empty.
Great recap! Wish I could had ran alongside you and Michael but felt like I was there with you guys. Can’t wait to cheer you on this weekend, good luck!
Cool run. I love how they start so early. Definitely want to avoid the heat. When I lived in the Midwest we always joked about running Detroit. A few people had run it and reported a decent race experience. Judging from your video it does look like a well organized race. I wound up doing the Grand Rapids for my Michigan marathon. Very impressive with your time... I know I've used a half marathon as my final long run and sadly I raced it and it wound up fatiguing myself for the 26.2 race. Cool video and good luck at Marine Corps
I am a forefoot heel striker with VERY narrow feet. I love the AF1's and AF2's. The AF3's just don't work for me. I was excited to try them for my first marathon of the year and I finished 5 mins slower. For my 2nd marathon of the year I went back to AF2's and did quite well, cut the 5 mins back off. After listening to other runners boast about how wrong I was and how the AF3's are a better shoe than the earlier versions, I ran my 3rd marathon of the year in them (thought I would give them another shot). Same thing happened, I ran the same time as my 1st marathon, which was 5 mins slower than my PR. The issue I have is that they hurt the balls of my feet (well my right foot anyway). Makes marathon running very painful from beginning to end. Even 5K distances, I do better with AF 1's or 2's. So disappointing, because I waited so long to get them. I think the POD placement and the fact that the AF3's run a bit wider than previous versions is what is causing my problems.
Sorry to hear they don't work for you. I agree that the change in the midsole may have caused your foot strike to land differently causing the problems. Good thing there are other shoes that are just as good for less money.
@@joshuaxruns Update: 2 weeks after running Chicago in AF3's. I decided to run MCM in 1st generation AF's (I have the AF 2's, but I still think AF1's are the best.) My feet felt great the entire marathon and I cut 12 mins and 33 seconds off my Chicago time from 2 weeks earlier, finally breaking a sub 3 hr time. I am convinced the AF3's are garbage. Can't wait to try Metaspeed Sky Paris, but many of the specialty stores don't carry them in stock. Would be nice to try them on before ordering.
Hahaha love the married quote. Great review. Paris all the way. Quick question how can you send them back after wearing them so much. So how did you go in your half ? Any video uodate on the race with the sky ?
For race day shoes I don't put many miles on them prior to racing them (usually less than 10 miles max), and I typically run all treadmill miles if I am unsure I am going to keep them.
You are very outgoing and energetic. Great running and very entertaining video. I like the music background you chose. Will be running Philadelphia in 2024!
I’m glad you mentioned that this requires a break in period. Everyone keeps saying it’s great out of the box but I just got it and it feels very firm and nothing like the Sky or Edge Paris. I’m hoping that it will soften up after a few runs.
I thought I was crazy when I first got the shoe because everyone else said it felt broken in out of the box. Hopefully after some time it feels better for you.
I kind of agree with you. It's one of my favorite shoes currently but there are other options on the market that are just as good and may be better suited to each individuals preferences.
I’m dealing with some horrible blisters so these are unfortunately sitting here waiting for me to try (curse you More V5’s!). I’m worried about stability but the upper feels so snug to size I’m feeling like it won’t be an issue the way it is in the loose VF3’s. Unfortunately this does feel like a 5k / 10k shoe upon first feel but mostly perfect for that. Buying shoes inspires me to go out and put the miles in…
Thank you! And I feel you on the blisters thing. I typically just tape up if that starts to happen with any of my carbon plated racers (it seems to happen across multiple brands). And I do agree this shoe is great for shorter distances due to its weight but may be sketchy at the full marathon distance.
I ran the MSSP on a hilly half and was fine, but the AF3s wider base would probably be better for the full distance. So for NYC, I would go with the AF3.
Hello! I would like your advice. I started running more actively and experimenting with sneakers. I am preparing for a half marathon. I have Vomero 17, Nimbus 25 and Adizero SL2. Vomero 17 - soft, stable, I like them for easy runs. I was excited about the Nimbus 25 at first, but now they seem cumbersome and very slow. SL2 - excellent: both the pace has improved, and the speed, and the heart rate does not increase. My question is, should I replace the Nimbus 25 with something else for slow recovery runs? Are they not needed at all with Vomero 17? And what sneakers would you recommend for my collection to close all questions? Of particular interest are the recommendations for speed/tempo sneakers. I will be very grateful.
I would run the 25's as a recovery shoe since you already have them. But in the future, if you feel the vomero can fit both roles then that saves you money. For speed, I would look at the endorphin speed, puma deviate nitro, or shoes similar to those. They have a plate and some super critical foam but aren't as expensive or aggressive as race day shoes. Hope that helps!
Philly is a great course! Have fun and don't worry about the hills. Just make sure to start a little conservative knowing the hills will be there in the late stages of the race. Good luck!
I’ve only owned a ASICS Kayono or nimbus. I currently own the gel nimbus 25 and I love them but I do find that they are super squishy and Soo comfy so I feel very slow. I just purchased the purple and pink superblast 2. I can’t wait to train in them. I’m starting from scratch. Haven’t run in 6 months. I’m lucky I got my size because there’s hardly any available in the limited stockists in Australia.
