Josh Homme has been the soundtrack to my life. From Kyuss, QOTSA, Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures, Iggy Pop and Dessert Sessions to his production on Arctic Monkeys records I havent been able to escape this guy since my teens. I am now 43 yeras old and he is the musician I listen to the most. Kyuss are such an amazing band. This is a great look into one of my favourite ever bands and artists.
As much as I enjoy Brant and John as solo artists...creative differences with the best songwriter of your scene...says more about y'all than it does Josh, and I love Kyuss as a band...it just seems silly to disagree with someone who is better at the job than you are...
Upon my first listen to Welcome to Sky valley I recognized it had a very specific feel to it, something akin to a masterpiece forgotten by time due to mere chance. Interesting to know Kyuss effectively had that exact thing happen to it. It really sums up the truly unique and mystique passion this band burned out while it shone with brilliant life in some distant desert not to be seen until it was gone.
I was lucky enough to see them on the Blues For The Red Sun tour with Brandt. They played to a packed crowd of 15 people in this huge venue in VA Beach...no one was there. If they could have played just 15 minutes away in Norfolk at a place called KIngs Head Inn they would have had a much better show with at least 70 to 100 people. Kyuss were virtually unknown back then on the east coast. It was a weird time for bands back then. It was all word of mouth.
we used to call it "desert rock" i have no idea how " :stoner rock" became popular. similar bands have no more drug influence than any other type of rock music. very strange.
I love QOTSA but it sounds like the other band mates weren't as well off as Josh. If it's not about money than why didn't Josh split the publishing rights with his brothers? Zeppelin split everything. Seems like greed, infighting and pulling in different directions kills so many great bands.
I went PDHS with these and played football with them. Parties were wild, good times back in the desert for sure. Josh, Brant, and Chris were phenomal ball players and could easily played at the collegiate level. I'm glad they followed their passion for music. I' found this video while listening to old songs we listened to before each game. Sorry for the rant. Just a trip down memory lane.
garcia ist still an underrated rock vocalist. he just had it. he even could have easily substitute soundgardens great cornell and it would have worked like a charme
I was in a SoCal thrash band from 88-91 and...to this day...I have no idea how but we completely missed out on Kyuss. I didn't start listening to them until waaaaay later. Bums me out to this day.
Brant was right in leaving for that reason. Integrity comes before anything else. What's ironic is how Josh made so much money is Queens and then has the vanity to block Kyuss Lives and for the same integrity reason. It's like saying "If I can't have it, nobody can have it". Let this be a word to the wise on how to legally form a band that won't punk you later on. Ufff
Right, and his comment about how he didn't feel bad about people not seeing Kyuss when they were around that time rubbed me the wrong way because maybe some of the fans weren't born or weren't old enough back then to see them live and they're now just discovering them.
Josh would profit from the return of the band anyways. I believe they made some agreement for not using the band name later in life. Josh made his band and luckily was successful, but if it didn't happened and he tried to use Kyuss content or name, other members would block him also. Idk.
People get a bit precious when they get successful. That showbiz diva effect is a bad look, but them going around as Kyuss without him in the band makes a bad taste as well!
Wow... I just"proved" my drug theory firsthand. I actually saw KYUSS opening for White Zombie and Danzig, not Soundgarden,my coronavirus fevered brain remembered specifically the rather large, scary goth ladies pushing my frightened skinny tripping dude ass around like a RAG DOLL...haha.😂😂. I had seen Monster Magnet open for Soundgarden at that same menu, around the same time... perhaps therein lay that awkward confusion
Wow horrible 1:20 I’m out (horrible music and voice over actor) really bad play KYUSS ffs ... use a better mic closer up and less room noise for voice over... sorry I took tv film studies lol
