Velocity is easy ...how about a good way to randomize stale progression midi where 3rd and fourth chord notes all start on the same grid line. Why cant i find this
Do some digging on maxforlive.com - there are tons of great sequencers on there, including some specifically for drums. There are even some new official Max sequencers coming soon in Live 12.1!
@@Steveo1136 Well that will be why its not working then, as you need Max For Live installed to use it. Good luck on the upgrade though - totally worth it 😎
Thanks! ❤ IIRC, that was a preset from the excellent but unfortunately now discontinued Izotope Iris plugin 🥲 You could probably get something similar with a shakuhachi sample or even just a regular flute sample, I think.
No plans for a course. Any educational videos I do will most likely always be free and available on RU-vid 😊 You can support by grabbing one of the packs from elphnt.io/products/ableton-live-packs/
After installing Ableton Live, this is the FIRST STEP to being productive. I have NO IDEA why your video is not featured on the Ableton Live website as "REQUIRED VIEWING...Sounds like someone is playing DEFENSE on you right now....Great Video and possibly the MOST IMPORTANT Ableton Live Video.....of all TIME.....
This is amazingly helpful! Have been wanting to get into max for live for a while now and being a vfx artist who has used procedural workflows in software like Maya Bifrost or Houdini or Gaffer, etc. I can totally relate to this now. Simple and well explained! Thank you for sharing this!
Just my two cents, I don't think the Push 2 (essentially exactly the same, without MPE) helped my workflow whatsover, it only slowed it down. I see the value of MPE on the Push 3 for sure. However, it is extremely fun, and that is sincerely valuable. It makes every Ableton synth feel like a hardware synth, session mode is fun for clients, and furthermore they are excited to be able to feel like they can make music with me, instead of watching me click, I put the Push near the couch for them to interact with.
Thanks for cool lesson! Btw, have you any ideas how to randomize a signal from the Envelope Follower or use that signal as a midi source? For example I want to use the outcome signal from the envelop follower to create a random pan values in Ableton Utility plugin, or I to want use that signal to create midi notes.
You could probably achieve something like this using other Max modulators like the LFO or Shaper or any of the other user-made devices out there. Take a look at maxforlive.com - there are plenty of cool devices for creating random modulation signals! 😊
Really good video. I knew basically nothing about max at the start and I could probably replicate your example from memory. Great stuff, thanks, are there more :)
After work i managed to replicate the chance device from memory. It works great. Then i mapped a long gliding LFO to it and it makes really interesting ambient sounds. Managed to figure out how to get it displaying on push too. Thanks
At the moment, not much has changed for me - still using exactly these methods and techniques to organise stuff. But I'm starting to think about better ways to organise using the new Live 12 stuff. Particularly with the new bits in Live 12.1, like tagging folders and auto-tagging things are getting closer to a point where I'd be ready to switch over to using Filters and Tags. We'll see...
Actually not much, tbh, 'cause I was already quite happy with how my library was organised. But, with the new stuff in 12.1 I might start thinking about doing a slight re-org, so we'll see how that goes.
Bought the collection right ahead. Since then, Colour, Widen and Excite have become an essential part of my go to mixing tools. I don't crank em, always use em subtle and with intention. Especially when you have knobbing fatigue like me you just want to know a plugin that does "this" thing and that does it well. Thanks!
My biggest reason for not finishing music is the fact that the (pre) mixdown often times does not translate well on other systems. This means i am going back and forth tweaking the sounds while i am lets say 75% done. And then it becomes a hassle and it just sits there as an unfinished beat (a loop, an intro, little transition here and there). This really is a burden.
What a shame even still with Live 12 you have to use 'Work arounds'. Look, 'work arounds' are only a bandaid for a system that doesn't work inherently. They are not 'the way things should be'. People think that these work arounds are great, problem solved! No. Not at all. What's wrong with you that you don't realize that?! I am so tired of Ableton not getting their basic shit right. Like, for all that is good, in the whole god damn world, for the love of GOD, please, for Christ's sake, JUST ADD DOUBLE to TRIPLE OR MORE the amount of collections and colors available. Is it all that hard Ableton? Oh, I can create a 'work around' to make folders sorta kinda in collections? But I still have to set up myself and I still have dig for it. AND, you can't even right click inside the pane/window to the right after selecting a specific collection where the list of plugins is and add a folder? What?! Are you effing serious? I have to do all this shit with user library as a WORK AROUND? 🤬 But what if, check this out, now don't break your brain when I say this, what if, are you ready... ? What if... ok here we go, I know this is HUGE NEWS, but, ok, can you handle it? What if ...... Ableton just gave us more collections and colors right at the top level?!!!! To make it REALLY EASY FOR US!? NO WORK AROUNDS NECESSARY?!! What if we could right click in the window to the right an EASILY add a folder to organize our collections without having to have a plugin open to drag and drop??!!! Can I take it right from the list and drag it into a folder within collections? Are there MORE collections in addition to that flexibility??!!!! No, ofcourse not, Ableton will NOT make it easy for us. OMG, did I break your brain? No, they answer is NO. Did I break Abletons brain? Yes, the answer is YES. Wow. This shit sucks. I'm TIRED of 'work arounds'. So much so, that I am smart enough to do what EVERYONE else WANTS to do but won't because they are already sucked in to Ableton and want to be loyal are used to it, and that is, I will leave Ableton for another DAW. F you Ableton for taking advantage of us and not making the correct changes WE ACTUALLY NEED. The simple, brain dead dumb easy, TOP LEVEL EASY changes that we all need. Ughhhhhh 🤬 You came out with Live 12 AND DIDN'T ADD MORE COLLECTIONS OR the flexibility to drag and drop FROM THE LIST INTO ANOTHER FOLDER OR LIST WITHIN COLLECTIONS!!!!! OMG. Just, OMG. Done. (Btw, I sent this directly to Ableton as well, so save your breath)
Very simple and effective. Excellent video on these. Too many super producers trying to over complicate things these day. Simplicity = best results 👌🏻 Cheers
