One of my favorite Wishbone Ash albums. Had the pleasure of listening to it on Vinyl for the first time a few days ago and I still can't get over it. I also love your playing! Thank you for making this video series covering Living proof because it's one of my favorite tracks on the album and an amazing opener. I'm looking forward to learning from you!
Thank you , I love his music too. I saw him twice, once with the Full House band with Ray Minhinnett on guitar ( great guitar player ) , then years later with Simon Kirke , Chrissie Stewart and Brian Robertson.
Love Frankie Millar, great to hear someone remembering his music. Would love you to consider doing some more guitar demos of some of his original songs. I remember his lead player was a left handed strat player any time I saw him on tv. But I guess his band lineup changed from time to time. Frankie was one of my favourite artists when I was a teenager in the 70s. I’ve been watching some of your RU-vid posts David, Subscribed. 🌌🌅🌠🕊👍🏻
Little too much feedback, but, I could tell it was the break in Stairway...Not even close to "the greatest" Though. Page himself, soloing in Dazed and Confused trumps Stairway...Tony Iommi in "Warning" may have the title. Gilmour has some AMAZING blue riff based soloing on Dogs -on Animals, Tony Iommi again on Dirty Woman - Technical Ecstasy...:)...Good health to you~
Really enjoyed your demo David, thanks for sharing it with us all. I’ve always wanted to learn this iconic guitar piece from start to finish . I’m wondering could the original acoustic intro etc be played on the electric and then the solo played with some more gain and volume tweaks etc. I’ve learned plenty of instrumentals in the past but shy’ed away from this one, I really want to learn it now. What do you think would be the best way for me to approach learning it David? I know there’s quite a bit involved to pull it off properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 🌌🌅🌠🕊👍🏻
Hi, thank you for that. Yes , if you back off the volume on an electric , you could certainly find a sound to match the intro then maybe bring the volume up through the song till you reach the guitar solo . If there are any parts you would like me to go through , just say. Thanks again.
I LOVE that F! Must be about the first rock solo to really spell out a chord change.( I'm not talking about the jazz guys paying rock a visit) I use that very lick to to introduce pupils to playing to chord changes. Jimmy took that basic, sorry for the language, min.pent. scale that would normally end on an E and made it a bit more sophisticated. I get my pupils to play the lick but get them to land on a note that's appropriate to the chord I'm playing. I've got a whole concept that goes with it, but basically, play that lick and land on F# and it's a beautiful lick fo D7. It's a great device and it was Jimmy who opened my mind to that idea, as opposed to the jazz guys who I couldn't understand. Totally agree about Neville. Love his playing, maybe my favourite out of that whole Guitarist magazine crowd, and when he talks guitar it's always the stuff I want to hear about. As you've probably guessed, this post is one I really like!
I didn't know that , thanks for that information. That makes it an even more unusual collaboration with George essentially being part of the band , and Eric then coming in. What a fabulous song.
George played rhythm guitar until the bridge, then Eric came in with the Leslie part and overdubbed the solo. Mixing major and minor is classic Clapton 🙂 🎸👍
Here’s the thing, for me - not a Jimmy Page fan and don’t get Led Zep (I’ve tried) but I have to agree that ‘Stairway’ is the greatest rock guitar solo ever recorded
@@davidmayguitarsolotutorial4366 The better part of 30 years ago, which is unbelievable. Started scrolling through the clips just to see if Cold Sweat was there!
I'm 65 years old and I've only been playing for 2 years. I grew up with this album and always dreamed of learning this song or All the Young Dudes. This is absolutely beautiful and your sound is just like Mott the Hopple. ❤️🕊️🙏
Thank you for analyzing the Matt Andes stuff. I'm a drummer and I know every drum lick from every Jo Jo Gunne album, but Matt's playing still freezes me to this day. Just put on I Make Love, brought tears to my eyes, it is just SO GOOD !!
Thank you. I'm a massive fan , the first album has always been one of my favourite records, and Matt Andes is a magnificent guitar player for sure. The comeback album , Big Chain is great.
It's not bad news , whoever played it, it's great , and obviously Glenn Frey and Don Felder both both played some fabulous stuff on all those classic albums. It just always sounded stylistically , to me , far more like Don Felder.
So when people use the expression "to play the shit out of something", THIS is what they're talking about! Well done! Great tone, great energy and the solo was excellent! Just the right Jimmy Page sloppy chops! This made my day thank you!
