This is nice. I love the picture where you put Mainland beside Island. The difference is clear even without explanation 😂. Coming to Ikoyi, God willing. Is Ikoyi quite peaceful?
There is a general misconception that the mainland of Lagos is run-down, for the poor etc. First, the mainland is where you find the oldest residential areas namely Ebute -Metta, Surulere, Yaba, Ikeja and Apapa GRAs, Shomolu and Mushin with Isale-Eko, Obalende and Ikoyi exclusively reserved for Europeans, the diplomatic corps and very top Nigerian civil servants in the late 50s, 60s and 70s on Lagos Island. Second, the mainland is where the capital of Lagos State is, at Ikeja when the state was created 1967. Third, the mainland is the more diverse in terms of catering to the lifestyles and needs of Nigerians across social class, ethnic composition. It is where we have residential areas for the rich and influential (Ikeja/,Apapa/ Ogudu GRAs, Magodo, Shonibare Estate, as expensive as some areas on the Island) the middle /working class (Surulere- used to be the “Lekki”of the 70/80s, Yaba, Gbagada, Omole estate, Opebi and Ilupeju/Palm Grove Estate) and the deprived areas of Mushin, Shomolu/Bariga, Ajegunle, Agege. Fourth, the mainland is endowed with more municipal facilities (Access to and connectivity of road network/expressways, major transportation facilities / terminal - bus, seaport, airport), Industrial Estates and factories and National monuments (National Theatre, National Stadium, the International Airport) the old top secondary schools and tertiary institutions (Unilag, Yaba Tech, LASU) local markets - Mile 12, Tejuosho, Oyingbo, Mushin and Ishodi. Hope you find/youth find the above useful and informative in comparing the various areas of Lagos. Lastly, Lagos is composed of three (3) geographical parts - the Islands (Lagos, Victoria and Ikoyi) , the Mainland and the Peninsula (Lekki)
