I enjoyed the series but let's stop with the gaslighting this is for sure a white savior story. Maybe it consciously "tries" not to be, like a vampire who tries to drink animal blood in order to abstain from drinking human blood, but at the end of the day it's still a vampire. The white character is central to the plot, and functions as the filter through which we view the story. They try to portrait him as a clown early on to blunt this effect, but ultimately he's still portrayed as noble and heroic, and special while he cucks the abusive Asian husband and puts the wife "under his spell" as the husband later says. Why is it that the husband of the Asian woman the white savior falls for is always an abusive coward who doesn't deserve her. All the other women in the show adore and venerate there husbands, but in order to justify her cheating with the white savior, the Asian husband has to be portrayed as unworthy of her compared to the white man. Never mind that despite not bathing and being uncouth and abrasive, somehow all the Japanese women are just beguiled by him, and he always comes out of every interaction with the Japanese men looking like the good guy.
Asian racism should be stopped. Just because they never fought back does mean they accepted being bullied. It is sad that those people normalise this yet they say they against racism. Those people should be stopped! #endracism

Blackthorne did prevent Toranaga from being discovered by Ishido's men as they're leaving Osaka Castle, and saved Toranaga buried by the earthquake, and told Toranaga about Spain and Portugal's plan to control all the non-Catholic governments of the world, so that when Toranaga would became shogun, he would ban Christianity, saving Japan from western colonialism.
Actually he is being made a fool. The audience knows the Japanese are keeping their cool and won't kill Blackthorne out of hand, if he's unarmed. Yet he refuses to do so out of fear or insecurity.
