Thanks for the guide! This is for 2d I think. I'm flying in VR and spotting is really hard in that. Lowering the resolution could work but ... yeah you don't wanna do that in VR. I'm hoping DCS fixes the spotting in 2d and in VR in general.
i'm having problems with my speech in windows, im brazillian and for brazillian portuguese things are limited, but i've managed to put it in english and that's not a problem to me. I found this video trying to solve that but i've found myself in a much better lesson than i expect, this video is a gem. Thank you for all this knowledge, im gonna put in practice, i've just started out dcs in VR and controls was becoming a problem, much more in FC2024 planes. I did have a question, I bound a joystick button for VA to start listening for a command, then ideally I wanted to bind the same joystick button plus a key modifier in dcs to open the comms menu in case i need to get in there manually while I set things up, but I noticed when I press that same button even with the key modifier, VA starts listening for a command. is there a way to turn that off? obviously not a huge deal but for as extensive as this program seems to be i figured there was a way and I was just missing it.
I have a terrible time spotting and identifying warbirds until they are almost on my 6. I'm wondering if I had a larger screen it would be easier. I'm using a 17.3 screen on a laptop. 144 Hz 1920x1080 GTX1660ti . Would a 19" or 20" moniter make a difference?
simply skeaing the shape of the hostile plane is a triangle mesh with a very high resolution and from this mesh the gpu needs to decide, how to show them as pixels. The further away the plane is, the less pixels are available to display the plane. Now most games want to prevent the plane from vanishing, so they say, the plane needs to be atleast a certain amount of pixels. Then on a 4k display those pixels are way smaller than on a hd display (for same screen size). So your enemy plane will be be more visible since it occupies more of the screen area and thereby is easier to spot.
This video has a lot of great advice especially in explaining Reshade installation. However, it now seems quite out of date with the new spotting system in DCS 2.9. I'm not at all sure if setting 1080p conveys an advantage anymore since distant contacts are now drawn as multi-pixel blobs. I got the best spotting improvement by setting upscaling to DLSS (Nvidia option) and DLSS quality to Ultra Performance--it maintains the blob drawing even at medium distances and not just far ones.
any chance you would know how to make voice attack write things down, like notes? My god-tier idea would be to dictate to VA and have it write down East/West coordinates, be able to convert from decimal to/from minutes-seconds and MGRS, and be able to enter that info into a CDU/FMS. now THAT would be helpful. imagine getting a 9-line and just saying to VA to coords, then say "put it in the FMS" and it just smashes the keys on the CDU for you... oof wetness.
Friday 17 November 2023 There just was an Update on spotting by Eagle Dynamics. Has anyone yet tested if spotting now works better in 4k and 1400p than before ?
How do you get the windows speech menu to work? The one at around 3:45? I have had to spam it for ages just to get it to finally let me add a different dialect through the add voice menu option, but then it won't let me select anything other than English (US) in the dropdown box and it says all of the voice packs are 0MB.
Excellent tutorial. I have been using FoxVox, but am not completely satisfied with it. Have played with VA, but have found it more daunting to set up. This goes a long way to making that easier. Question: are you able to successfully use VA with either the built in multiplayer comms ("voice chat") or SRS? FoxVox seems to "hog the mike" and appears to conflict with this (at least my son and I can't make it work...). Any ideas/thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated.
I have been using this program today and I must say that I am very excited about it. It took me about an hour to set it up for my needs. At first it was very difficult and unfamiliar to communicate with the PC or DCS. Now it works really fine with DCS. I did not expect that. This completely changes my experience and feeling for this simulation. Thank you very much for this great explanatory video.
Hi Rhyn0 👋 I really enjoyed the style that you have used in the production of this video. Very engaging and seems to help move your eyes around the display to follow what is most useful for your eyes to see while leaving your ears to take in what you are saying. Even for my walnut sized brain this is a great combination that let me assimilate what you were trying to get across. I really liked the video as I am totally all in with the Mi-24P. To be completely frank, cold war is my era, and I don't just mean in terms of liking it. I, like many, I suspect, actually grew up in the cold war, and I actually served in it for many years. Despite being an atrocious pilot that could probably well do with the assistance modern aircraft afford, I find them too 'digital'. What I mean by that is, mainly the aircraft of the cold war seem to involve the pilot much more than the more modern aircraft. I don't think they are better or worse, the CW kit just seems to suit my tastes better. Of course, this makes your material like cat nip for me. Sorry for the ramble. I'm really just trying to say great job. I really liked this video and got a great deal from it. I'm looking forward to going through the entire collection over time. I basically followed everything in this video and it’s still near impossible to see planes. It’s seriously so bullshit how ED refuses to improve spotting. I play native 1080p on the enigma server and the moment the enemy plane goes over terrain it’s basically game over because it blends into the environment and I can’t see jack shit
What a mess DCS is with spotting even in new HMD its nearly impossible you see targets . 2.8 has done some thing that interferes with spotting . Reshade don't work in VR .

Yes, ypu would need at least 1 DLC. The best one to get is the FC3 pack as it gives you the A10, Su25 and mig 29 all of which you can use on the server, although they are lower fidelity than the more expensive modules.
Quick question because I'm too lazy to read the manual. Is it 10 degrees pitch or 10 degrees AoA? Or are those equivalent in the takeoff flight regime?
