This is out dated information it's 12 years ago. It needs to either be updated or taken off youtube. This information could end up harming box turtles.
@jonahboris6681 for one the water information. Someone that is researching may think you can just keep them in dry aired containments as well as superglue and nail polish fixes hurt turtles. if REAL information is needed on how box turtles need to be cared for ppl need to refer to Garden State Tortus for real updated information on box turtles!!
@jonahboris6681 besides the incorrect way to sex a turtle can cause someone to mistake a female for male and the female end up egg bound and die if there isn't a proper place for them to place their cluch of eggs.
Why do people think that they can just take something out of it's natural environment and do whatever the hell they want with it? It"s irresponsible and selfish!
myth 1: "only males have red eyes". no, females can have red eyes too. It is uncommon but it does happen. myth 2: "Box turtles can't swim". Eastern box turtles are at home in the water, can and do swim, and always stay close to water.
My friends would mark them with fingernail polish, put it in a spiral notebook. Sometimes one would be several years before it walked into the yard again. The numbers would be almost worn off .
I live in on the North Carolina/South Carolina line. I ride the roads in the spring and move box turtles off the road. I see hundreds of them when it’s baby making season.
We purchased an Ornate box turtle for my son from a pet store for a Christmas gift when he was 7. My son will be 33 this year, and his mother and I still have the turtle.
This made me tear up!!!!! My dad just found one today, and gifting me tomorrow on Father’s Day! By the way, I’m female🥹This comment made me soooo happy! I’ve had plenty in the past and I want to do right this time. I’m in my thirty’s now & have learned so much more of how to care for them.
@@user-vo5hj4yo9b My wife passed away last year. We always joked from the time that we got the turtle that she would outlive the both of us. Well, she is halfway there.
one summer in Maryland, I was sitting on my front stoop with my mom when a female box turtle arrived in our front garden and started digging a hole with her hind legs. It was amazing to watch her dig that hole. When she was done, she laid a clutch of eggs and then took a while to cover them up. I remember that she was missing all the claws on one of her front legs. She rested under some bushes for a while before heading back to wherever she came from. I was afraid that some predators would come and dig up her eggs, so I put a little terra cotta pot on top of them. I don't think they survived, but it was still an awesome experience
Sad my Turtle Has no home and What stuff do I need how long are big Does it need to be what stuff like Really need to know she's like gonna die and I don't spike to die
HI. I"m an eastern box turtle owner. I hate seeing her clawing at her tank all day. she's about 26. she's never had any other turtles around her. it's only been her. poor little lonely lady all these years i feel horrible. please help. btw i'm on the west coast and i got her when i was a kid :(((((
Check out www.youtube.com/@GardenStateTortoise for helpful videos on box turtle care. Creating an appropriate habitat is crucial, along with proper diet. Please get your baby out of a tank. Glass enclosures are terrible for them. You obviously care enough to ask for help, so please do lots of googling. You can't undo the past 26 years but you can absolutely give her a better life from here on. You'll both feel so much better! Good luck!!
This turtles are plaguing my backyard, actually. Kind of annoying, really. I'm skeptical that they are endangered. I saw a cat pawing at one. The cat gave up eventually.
Wrong lady... never screw with or adjust a turtle on its path, moving them even a fraction thinking your helping will throw it completely off its course and will have them lost to its nest. Best to just wait patiently for them to get on out the way..
@@kayladrew7036 you're not looking at the right part of the video. Yes, planes were writing a message in the sky. Tons of people saw it all over the city. There is a uap at 17 seconds. It flies much faster than the jets and right past them.
No I never did, I reported it to MUFON that night after my wife pointed it out and the next day I got an email from the MUFON president saying they got multiple reports of the sighting but I had the only video sent in and he confirmed it as a uap
Found one of these deceased in my woods this spring unfortunately Are box turtles dying out? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sB7BLssxfVU.html
I recently found one of these in woods and picked it up. It was so cute and it was a female with brown eyes. I walked miles back home with it back home to show my brother. Then released it back into the wild. So cool
It's less a video about box turtles and more a video scolding us awful humans for destroying them and their habitat. 13 minutes of "shame on you" complete with sad music. I'm so sick of this kind of sh**. Just for once it would be nice to learn about these creatures without a bunch of finger wagging and preaching. Sure...mention it for a minute or 2 or 3 and then move on!
Eastern Box Turtles are not gendered by eye color. While ones with red eyes are usually males there are some females with red eyes. Check out Garden State Tortoise on RU-vid for more accurate and indepth information. Turtles rules!
When I was young, I came across a small turtle by the curve of a road next to the small whittle forest. There was a dd cup next to it so I used it to scoop the little bugger up and put them back onto the grass towards that whittle Forest.
About 7 weeks ago a box turtle that has been living in my back yard for five years laid eggs, and covered them up. I protected the area with a wire box. My concern is that I mow that area, and when the are hatched they could be harmed. Does anyone have insight on how we should relocate them or what to do with them ?
This year I decided to mark all of the turtles that I saw. Today is Aug 19 2021 and I have marked 10, although one of them I don't expect to see again. He isn't a box turtle though and I've NEVER seen a water turtle as big as him! He had to be at least 18 inches across and and 24 long. I doubt I ever see him again and not sure why he showed up when he did. Anyway, I think I have probably 3 different species, but the more I watch turtle videos, the more confused I get. And TODAY, I saw two of them mating. Isn't it a bit late in the year?
I have one that randomly pops up in my yard in the fall so cute and I leave it alone and love it from a distance. Lol I always have random creatures popping up in my yard between Bears, Lizards, Turtles, even a wood chuck that strolls through and eats the weeds and thankfully has enough to eat and stays out of my garden. Even the deer respectfully stay out of my garden so we ALL have this mutual respect with one another don't go next to my food and we won't ever have a problem there is more than enough native plants to feed everyone. 😄. Im very spiritual and into that metaphysical stuff so I always ask the loved ones on the other side to please keep the beautiful wild life out of my garden and it actually works there is this invisible barrier they refuse to cross especially the deer.. I live out in the woods so out here they aren't a nuisance vs the city where they will inhale ALL your plants on top of having like zero fear of humans.. 😑🤣🤣 City wild life will look right at you roll their eyes and carry on like F you I aint scared what are you gonna do about it??.. Lmfaoo
