Hello, and greetings from Denmark… Why black ink i every cartridge on the Canon? Should filling only the black not be just fine? If you print in Canons B/Wmode, this will use very little from the other cartridges, but mostly from the black… so i guess my question is: do you then print in B/W or in full colour? Are your files 100% black or 100% all ( rich )? It would makes sense, if your files are 'rich' in the all black system… - i have used the Canon 8750 for some years ( with OEM and all black ), i got the best results by just using OEM ( they block enough UV ) - and printing in B/Wmode on matt paper-setting… - and i got pretty good results with a 3rd party special HD-dye ink in just the black cartridge - but…my printer did not like it at all, and did not survive all the cleaning cycles afterwards… My next printer will be an Epson, for sure… seems like their inks are more 'ready' out of the box? - and thx for all the knowledge :-)

Since switching to the AccuInk cartridges and getting an exposure unit, the screen making process is no longer something I dread. Today, I realized I forgot to make one of the screens I need to use to print tonight, and I just got it done. In the past, I would have been sooo stressed by this mistake. So worth the cost to streamline the process!

With the wet on wet process you mentioned a screen in between the colors. Is this just a coated screen used like a flattening screen? Any underside treatment to prevent ink from lifting?
@Ryonet
@Ryonet День назад
<-- Colin. Hi, yes it's just a normal screen which I was using as a flattening screen before this. Nothing under it, no coating. Are you having issues with Wet on Wet printing?

Hey - Riley Hopkins! Gold Standard as far as I'm concerned! Love Hopkins! I used to go to their Xmas parties every year back in the 80's in Berkeley. What were they called? "Riley's Big Deal" or something like that. Fun fun! I like your use of the "in between" pick up screen to limit the ink contamination. Makes sense. Thanks again!

so ive noticed that certain papers adhere differently then others I usually have the most difficulty with the ones with designs..like hologram or various shapes in the colors..is there a different time that should be used for those or thicker ones? also like a have a chrome and its thicker then the silver so it doesn't adhere the same either any suggestions?

Great video. I have a question similar to the color change technique for a screen… what is the best way to clean and store a screen (while keeping the stencil/emulsion) to use the same design for future use? In other words, I want to re-use burned screens for use at another time. I screen print for my personal brand and I want to keep the burned screens to use on future projects etc. it doesn’t make sense to keep burning the same design if I can keep one in the archives. Any tips on how to do this making sure the mesh is completely clean for then next use while keeping the emulsion intact?

Thank you Colin, I love these videos. I work as acreenprinter since almost four years and I made a hobby out of it: at home I print shirts for myself or for friends. I've only used water-based inks so far, I find it easy to clean; as I only make one print the ink doesn't have time to dry in the mesh. I'm experimenting with discharge red, so it's not a clear like Colin's using. First, I did a single-stroke print with normal water-based, red coloured ink on a blue-dyed shirt which came out too dark. I did a print-let it dry for an hour-print, which came out nice, but lays too thick on the shirt. I did a white ink-let it dry for an hour-red ink, but the red starts to crackle after many wash-cycles and the white shines through. So far, the best I've seen was a double-stroke print with the discharge red after waving a heatgun at it. Discharge ink and activator really stink up the place, Colin does not exaggerate. If you can, open a window while printing, or use a mask (the one you would use during reclaiming or de-hazing). About my drying process; I don't have space for a conveyor dryer, so that's simply out of the question. A flash unit might be in my future, but since I only print one-offs how useful would that be? Using a heatgun or flatiron to cure prints might take more time, but works just as well. For me it's purely hobby, hobbies shouldn't be rushed.
@Ryonet
@Ryonet 15 дней назад
Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s awesome that you’ve turned screen printing into both a career and a hobby. Your experiments with water-based and discharge inks show how much you’ve learned over the years-figuring out what works best is all part of the fun. The discharge red can be tricky, but it sounds like you’re getting the hang of it with that double-stroke method and a heat gun. And you're absolutely right about the smell-ventilation is key! As for curing, since you’re printing one-offs, a flash unit might seem like an investment, but it can actually save you time and give you more consistent results. But until then, your heat gun or flatiron is definitely doing the trick. Keep experimenting, and happy printing!

Doing the same. I’m just doing all the work working a full time job and running the business. I just can’t trust people to put out quality like I would since I own the business. But the long term strategy is to build it until it can replace my income and then hopefully I will be able to leave my day time job. It’s all a plan especially in this competitive market
@Ryonet
@Ryonet 15 дней назад
That’s a solid plan, and I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s tough to trust others with your business when you’re so invested in delivering top quality. Balancing a full-time job and running your own shop is no small feat, but it sounds like you’re on the right track. Keep pushing forward, and with the dedication you’re putting in now, you’ll get to that point where your business can fully support you.

One thing I do is walk the screen up or down, loosening one clamp, tap with a rubber mallet VERY lightly, tighten the other clamp, loosen the corresponding clamp then repeat. I could set this up with no micros faster than 3 hours.

I have a cheap chinesium press that I use with no micros, and I've done six color halftone, simulated process with much difficulty but a lot of first time spot on registration prints. I use 3 top an bottom very fine registration marks always in the same place and I have the same regmarks drawn on the platen with the finest pen not sharpie. I line them up in the exact spot and readjust until they're regged up perfectly.

I absolutely hate the screen clamp knobs, the little bolts at the bottom to keep the screen tight are the worst. There has to be a better way than this. I know its a cheap press but dang...
@Ryonet
@Ryonet 15 дней назад
We totally get where you’re coming from. When tightening the screen becomes a chore, it can really slow down your workflow. If these small frustrations are adding up, it might be time to consider an upgrade. Upgrading to a more advanced press can offer you sturdier clamps, smoother adjustments, and overall better build quality. Many of our other presses come with micro-registration features, which can eliminate the need to fuss with the nobs altogether.
@Brokenstarz55
@Brokenstarz55 15 дней назад
@Ryonet that's unfortunate because we got it to save space as we already have several other larger presses and to do simple small one color jobs not to upgrade. I guess you're just forcing people to upgrade out of frustration, that's unfortunate and we will not be buying anymore of your products.
