Birds of Prey in action! It will mainly be my male Harris Hawk named Bolt and his younger brother Luca. We will also feature our Goshawk Colt working along side our German Wired Haired Pointer, Connie. Hope you enjoy!
Yeah there is always a chance, We have been quite fortunate with the lack of injuries. Rabbits and especially Hares have very strong and powerful back legs, so if the hawk was to grab the rabbit by the back end and take one of those kicks… then it can sometimes be risky.
Lovely video - you are so lucky to deal with these gorgeous animals. I'd just love to pat and kiss one would be enough. Thanks for not polluting the video with that crap music, which makes most of this kind of thing unwatchable.
It's funny that you'd not fly the Harris's on pheasant, as we've seen some good video of fit Harris's really going after pheasants! That Bolt seems to be showing how impressive a fit Harris's can be...fast and persistent, combined with calm personality, hard to beat!
If you don't come to kill tahe rabbit, how do the hawks actually put it down, if they "bother"....I've seen that some hawks actually suffocate prey, by gripping it about the lungs with their feetm and just bearing down on it, so's it can't get a proper breath....falcons, a different story! Amazing how they bang onto a bird, with so much power, then snip through the spine! Not always so neat and clean, but I've seen a Goshawk take a bird and just rip at it, never mind...
Absolutely lovely to see him on point ready to go, I'm up on Anglesey North Wales and still ain't too happy to go out hunting with my birds as we still got birds being found dead from costal to inland
Nice video lads! Great to see youngsters having a keen interest in falconry! Most young lads are knocking about the streets getting up to no good! Well done boys!! And I hope falconry brings you many more years of enjoyment!
I love working with both the Harris and the Goshawk about the same. They Goshawk certainly requires alot more concentration and effort when going after pheasants, Normally thats Connie the German Wired Haired Pointers job to do all that running 😃 You maybe seen her on point in my newest video
I think the problem with the collars are there is not any parts you can dismantle and renew or fix, it’s a stupid sealed unit. Probably part of the reason deben decided to stop making them. I know that the receiver box can be fixed but the transmitter collars are unrepairable.
We have a German Wired Haired Pointer who you have maybe seen working with the Goshawk. The harris hawks arent very keen on her tho so we usually have to leave her out when hunting with the HH.
