My name is Chris Talley, and I love to play music! I own The Bluegrass Shack in New Athens, IL. I have 60 private students and another 100 or so group students. You'll see videos of me and my students, jam sessions here at The Bluegrass Shack, instructional videos, and occasionally just songs I like. I play over 25 instruments, but teach mainly banjo, fiddle & guitar. Although I read music and have been classically trained on flute, you're going to see mostly bluegrass here!
Simply awesome and kudos to Steve and you as his mentor and instructor. Can you please tell us how much time Steve practices. I am an inspired retired person and a wanna be banjo player. My problem is I have too many other interests and hobbies that it is making it hard to dedicate enough time to the banjo to make any progress. I found it easy to learn the basic rolls and had little issues with the right hand but struggled to get comfortable with the left hand on the neck. I am trying to find a banjo teacher in my area but not having much luck so far so self-teaching has become frustrating enough that I tend to put my banjo last or near last on my list of things to spend my time on. I realize this video dates back quite some time but am hoping I hear back from you. Thanks.
I think it's unhealthy the number of times I come back to this video because of how beautiful it sounds. Would you consider teaching us how to play this? 🙏
Thanks for untangling this tune. I've been listening for weeks to different versions of it on youtube and this is the first time I can clearly hear the notes of the A part.
The Recording King tenor guitar that I saw on their website and that a friend of mine owns is a 000 size guitar. We tried putting it in my Martin 000JR-10 gig bag, and the tenor was two big for that bag.
Standard tenor tuning is C3G3D4A4. Chord shapes are comparable to a tenor banjo. That what makes the tenor guitar sound out and cut through a mix with other stringed instruments.
