both of these characters got screwed over by man. but they managed not to let what happened to them consume them. Spirit defied Custer when he tried to break Spirit's spirit and tame him. and Bambi, though traumatized by the death of his mother, still kept going and found love in Faline (as well as giving Ronno a good ass kicking both as a fawn and a grown buck)
I feel foolish not being able to figure out the full story; I could guess for the most part, but because I'm set in the 2 original stories it's difficult to separate that from the one you're trying to tell. It was incredible editing though, so props to you for that!
