Very neat drill! Have you ever seeded fluffy seeds such as big bluestem, little bluestem, indiangrass, etc? Wondering how well it meters them? Thanks!

Hi Andrew! Yes, we have used the Aitchison Drill to seed fluffy seeds -> the exact seeds you've listed and other warm season perennials, which tend to be fluffy. The Aitchison Drill is designed and made in New Zealand, where they don't plant warm season perennials. Understandably then, the drill is not specifically designed for these fluffier seeds, however, you can mix in a carrier to allow them to flow correctly in the Aitchison Drills. Cat litter and sand are examples of carriers. With the blend of carriers and fluffy seeds, the Aitchison Drill can do a very good job. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best score = like a drill that is specifically made for fluffy seeds, the Aitchison Drill scores a 7-8 on its ability to plant these seeds accurately...plus, you get its awesome perfect-10 abilities with other seeds. Thanks for your question! Have a great day!

@@smokymountaincattleconsult5302 Thank you for a very thorough answer to my question!! It sounds like a great metering system for the diverse variety of species of grasses, forbs, and woody species that I plant.

at 11:02 it makes me laugh a bit. when my dad was a dealer for these we had that exact same section sitting on our kitchen table growing up. my dad would invite farmers in and would show them how it worked. brings back really fond memories. dads gone now but i still run the aitchinson.

Very neat. Used a rancher today. Thing is probably from the early 90s when my dad was a dealer in minnesota. The rodent guard is something i have not seen before. darn mice get after those sponges unless you are real careful. great video.
