Hi, my name is Erin Bartel. I love old school music as well as some modern country. On this channel, I react to music and look into some of the history, meaning, and inspiration for that music. Thank you for stopping by. Have a great day! 😊
It's still a haunting and beautiful song, as relevant today (perhaps even more so) as it was when it was written. Joe South was a superb songwriter and singer.
Skip-a-Rope is a song titled about a child's game. As children we would sometimes chant improv lyrics as we played jump-rope. The chanting's many times came from what was heard and seen at home. From a personal perspective the first verse lyrics are an evening paradigm of what went on at my house more times than not. After my parents' separation and divorce my dad would pick us up on Sundays. This song was always on the radio AM station WJJD or WMAQ both out of Chicago. The "standard" lyrics to the game that I recall... down in the valley where the green grass grows, there sits (insert name of kid jumping) as sweet as a rose, along came (insert name of heart throb) and kissed her/him on the cheek, how many kisses did he/she get that week? 1 kiss 2 kisses 3 kisses 4, 5 kisses 6 kisses 7 kisses more....etc, etc until tripped up.
The movie is HILARIOUS!! She plays a cosmetics tycoon who loses all her money. Her remaining investment is boxer (played by Ryan O'Neal), who hadn't boxed in a long time.
I grew up listening to Dan Fogelburg. His songs can tell a story like none other. I've been a musician for over forty years. His songs mean so much to me that I've learned to play many of his songs on piano and guitar. His song about his father, "Leader of the Band" gets to me every time I hear it.
I love the way that Harry describes the bullets as "questions", and when the cops finally kill the sniper, it is described as his "answer". This is a brilliently written song!
The laughing that you are comparing to Pink Floyd is laughter that is coming from his wife as she is abusing the sniper. In the song, the lack of love from his mother and wife caused the insanity that lead to the deaths of both of them as well as the mass shooting. This song was inspired by the 1966 massacre at the University of Texas at Austin, however, it is far from being historically accurate.
If you want to do a reaction to a Barry Manilow performance, the quintessential one would have to be his Gonzo Hits Medley from his Live On Broadway tour (1990). It's a medley of (almost) all of his top 40 songs spanning from 1974-1983, but it's approximately 20 minutes long and there are approximately 20 songs in the medley. The first time I heard this was after I bought the album and it was as AWESOME as any performance he's ever done.
My grandpa passed away in 2018, he was 90, we were very close. When he passed away he was in a different state and he was cremated. I'm on the autism spectrum and the only way I can have complete closure is to see the person after they die, I have to see the body to fully accept everything and to grieve. He came home in an urn, it's been seven years this upcoming December and honestly I still haven't really allowed myself to grieve his passing. Four days ago I came upon this song, this song has allowed me to cry and I like to believe that this song is my grandpa speaking to me. Go do the best things in life, and that's what I've been doing the last year or so trying to make him proud. I listen to this song every day and allow myself to cry and I feel this release after crying. This song fills me with so much peace I can't even describe it. Thank you disturbed for allowing me to finally start grieving in a good way not a negative way.
Thanks for sharing, I had to look for this song, I’d heard it as a kid and couldn’t think of the name. Subscribed, spooky. Take care , you’re very cute.😊
Mi piace immedesimarmi nelle reazioni degli altri, mi fa pensare a quando l’ho ascoltata io la prima volta. Ma queste canzoni posso ascoltarle infinite volte, mi toccheranno sempre l’anima. Grazie
I'm 70 and this has become my anthem. Solitude after two failed marriages is in fact a wonderful thing. I have my books and my photography to protect me. I enjoy talking with others but I prefer my own company when given a choice. We're born alone and die alone. Living alone for me, is the best way to connect those two events. 🌞☕🎶
Late to the reaction and sorry to be picky, but "Roads to Moscow" isn't from the "Year of the Cat" album. It's from "Past, Present and Future". Otherwise a great reaction. He read over 40 books on the subject before writing this song. No one does songs based on history better than Al Stewart.
Kind of a PUNCH TO THE GUT, huh? Their entire Album is filled with songs that are gut-punching. I highly recommend that anyone who loves these reactions...to go buy the 1973 CD called THE BEST OF BREAD that has this song on it and other equally beautiful songs. I was going thru my first and only breakup when I heard this album. It helped me sort out my feelings.
Yes, we need this song to play in our hearts. There is so much ugly hatred, especially in college students. Oh Lord, show yourself! We need you to bring peace.
1st off,.. You're adorable.! And Ty, I was looking for a reaction to this performance because I was listening to some music and this came on. And I wondered if anyone reacted to this. Especially because of the ending. His range and vibrato are incredible. Personally , I don't compare Tony to Frank. I think, even though same genre, much different. I think Tony is a better singer. I think Frank talked more than sang. But what do I know, eh? T.Y. All the best to you.
I think this song is a mini master piece of composition, story telling and musical execution. It’s sophisticated, suprising and engaging in so many ways. I first obsessed with this song in 70’s and have returned to it occasionally but its made a lasting impression on me in my life and career as a musician and music teacher. I’m so glad your video is out there for people to find.
