i was marshalling at top of druids that day. The 1st time we saw the BMW coming up the hill we started to go for the fire extinguishers cos of all the smoke coming from it. but it was just wheelspin, even though 4x4. insanely quick in a straight line.
We were stood at the top of tumbledown hill. The thud of John Welch hitting the barriers was so loud you just instantly assumed he was out of the race.
I think this was my 3rd GP at Brands. I'm not sure Will would have beaten Martin that year, but as usual, he never gave up trying!! Shame about John Welch getting caught up in the accident. His Astra was a weapon when it ran with no issues. 😎👍🏻
watching these old rallycross videos....and cant get my head around....how much potential that escort mk3-4 had in them....gets me thinking that rs200 was maybe one of the biggest rally mistakes ford could have done
Modern rallycross, and most motorsport, has been ‘Red Bulled’. It’s all about big money and making the mundane look spectacular with creative footage. Watch modern rallycross and you’ll see what I mean. It’s just soulless, boring, and a waste of money. I think the banning of Group B in rallycross was purely to attract manufacturers and big sponsorship. Manufacturers aren’t interested in throwing money at cars that have been out of ‘production’ for seven years! It’s a shame, but I’m just glad I was a small part of those heady days 😁
This is the start of boring... I grew up loving rallycross, rallying & F1. All have become increasing dull over the years. Now I watch paint drying if I'm after a really exciting weekend afternoon.
Used to love watching these races Schanche a true showman. Love him or hate him he was a great driver. Murray walker commentating RIP he did so much more than F1
I was there for this race, it was an incredible drive by Will & a much deserved win. RIP Murray, your commentary brings back memories of this great day.
And they come across the front lawn, round the porch they go, AND THE MAILBOX HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT!, the dogs ARE barking, past the disabled lawn tractor, thru the shed, and up against the hedge.
I was at some of these races but I was only 3 at the time this race happened.. Its awesome being able to watch it all again now I'm old enough to appreciate it
