I am looking for an alternative to drywall to achieve a one hour fire rated assembly for a residential elevator shaft, so this would be a permanent installation. Does your project make sense for this application?
I just installed this system myself without assistance nor instruction sheet. The entire system is intuitive and well engineered for repetitive applications. Panel connections are easy and quick, but a second person makes the installation fast and safe. These panels are of durable materials, double-faced, long, and thick, so they are not light weight and may be cumbersome for persons to manipulate....especially the swing door/frame. I too had trouble stabilizing the door threshold. In hindsight, I should've applied double-stick foam tape under the threshold along each edge. It can alleviate potential unevenness and offers cushioning during static loading. The only gripe I have are: a) t-bar clips have rubber inserts that make clamping onto the t-bar difficult. T-bar clips not designed for tegulated ceiling panels. b) corner panels need a connector at their upper edge (scavenging the L-bracket and a second locknut from another t-bar clip works) c) bottom edge of multi-panel walls tends to deviate off alignment mid-span. There needs to be a bar that can span across multiple panel's using their lug channels to prevent foot displacement when hit with floor-care machines, carts, etc.
LIke it just need to see how to stabilize the door threshold to keep it from moving when door is opened and closed! Door jambs tend to shift when used!
You also need a place to store the panels but if you per build drywall panels and plan on reusing them storage is still a issue! Cost of drywall I’m sure is cheaper but trust me setting up drywall temp panels is a pain and you may need temp zip wall isolation also while installing construction temp walls! The 1 hour rating is great and may be needed for Life Saftey issues? Need to run the numbers, storage, transport and labor.
