I don't see that screen with the new plans/ enabled old plans / when i go to my plans , my freedom plan will end in March 25 ( currently suspended ). Will i have to pay another activation fee again ? Or could i simply switch to the enabled come March? or do i need to select a month of one of the new plans and then select enabled ? Thanks in advance
The update I had from Garmin when I called them was if you first switch to the £14.99 plan for 1month and then when you select change plan you will see the option to select the enabled one which is £7.99 a month , hope this helps. I was on yearly package and when I selected change plan I could see an option for enabled plan which I have now selected
Thanks for your message the device itself can also be used standalone for SOS & Check-in messages, the phone app is for sending long text messages, photo & voice message via satellites if needed, we hope this helps
I am using inreach what was the old safety plan £12.99 a month , this one is now the £14.99 plan but more messages than the 10 I had, you have to have that plan for at least one month or one of the new plans i.e £14.99 for at least one month and then what you can see on the video and I have the same option you can downgrade any time to a.plan called enabled for £7.99 a month in the UK , this has unlimited sos but pay as you go for checkin messages £0.10 per message or typed message £0.50 a message , if do not want to downgrade to the £7.99 a month enabled plan shown in the video garmin advised you would cancel and then no monthly payments but have to pay £39.99 every time you restart hence I will definitely just stick with my normal monthly plan £12.99 or when it changes to £14.99 and then if not using much will downgrade to the £7.99 a month but at least I know or will still work albeit messages pay as you go , hope this helps👍
Great explanation - thanks for going through the various permutations. Just a question: it does say ‘plus taxes and fees’. In the UK are we hit with the usual 20% VAT on top of those charges? I am yet to buy an InReach Mini but will do so soon in preparation for using it in New Zealand for 3 months later this year. After that I expect to need the unit activated for perhaps a month when back in EU. Also, I believe there are providers other than Garmin. Do you have any experience using them? Many thanks.
Hi thank you for your message when you subscribe & activate your device in UK the ESSENTIAL, £14.99, STANDARD £29.99 & PREMIUM £49.99 Price monthly all include VAT, we hope this helps
no. You have to pay the 39.99 every time you have to "restart" your subscription, unless you're using it once a month every year... hmm. I liked the "pausing" feature
@@frosty_soda In the old situation, you had to pay (something like) 39.99 per year for the Inreach *SERVICE*. You couldn't pause that. On top of that, you could have the freedom plan, which you could enable / disable whenever you liked. In this video, it isn't clear to me: 1. Is that "SERVICE" fee no longer existing? 2. Can I subscribe / unsubscribe to the "Consumer Essential Plan" on a monthly basis (since it's a monthly fee)? If that's the case, then it's not called 'pausing', it's called 'canceling'.... but the difference is minor.
Quote from their website: "Can I Still Suspend My Service on the New Plans? Essential, Standard, and Premium plans no longer have the option to suspend service. However, if you start to change or cancel your subscription an Enabled state of operation will be presented. The Enabled state provides a way of keeping the inReach device active and ready for use in an emergency situation at a low monthly cost. Enabled includes unlimited SOS and pay-as-you-go pricing for other features like messaging and tracking. Alternatively, some users may benefit from cancelling their service during the off season. For example, if you only need inReach satellite communication features for one or two months out of the year, it will be more cost effective to cancel your service and then reactivate it again the following year." So, from my understanding, if you are in the '2nd paragraph group', you have to pay the Activation Fee, along with the "Enabled" function. This means (at the time of this writing): 39,99 plus 7,99. After your once-a-year holiday, you have to cancel the entire service, and reactivate it again the next year.
Looks like you can not suspend anymore, you'll either have to cancel your plan or go to the 'enabled plan. If you cancel and reactivate later you need to pay the 39.99usd to reactivate, even if it's been less than 12 months
Ive got rhe 67i. Purchased from yourselves. I really wouldnt mind a touch screen model and bigger screen, for my ageing eyes . Not bothered about the extra size and weight etc. Will my 1,25k mapping just swap over. Also what would happen to my inreach subscription John?
Yes, your 1:25k map card will swap into a Montana GPS unit. If you went to the Montana 750i you can also transfer your inReach subscription over onto the new unit. I hope this helps.
The unit I used to own, (lost it off of the bike) would turn itself off quite regularly. And I would have to go through the boot up procedure to return and find my course again. Is that a feature or a bug, or was it just a lemon I ended up with? Before I shell out my hard earned on another one, is the software still buggy?
Hi that is not an issue we had come across on our demo units, albeit I have not used on a bike before just handheld for walking, generally if a unit was shutting down we would look at any GPX files being used for navigation at the time for possibly causing the issue
24:15 good location for UFO watching. i have Garmin Legend C also locks with a 6 feet precision, however it often loses a signal in a dense forest or rainy weather.
Hi we find the dual frequency and additional satellites that can now be locked onto with the new units really helps in these situations, that is great that your Legend C is still going strong
Hi, when I went on Indoor run and mirrored my screen I went on settings like you. I noticed you have more options to add. I need to add the stride length but it’s not visible in the list, however, stride length is visible on my watch. By any chance, do you know how i can add more options, please?
Brilliant video, thanks so much. Just bought this unit and it does everything I want it to do. What sold it for me is that it takes disposable battery’s, and you can always carry spares. If you’ve got a unit with a built-in battery and you forget to charge it? You’re knackered. Great that the software you talk about works on a Mac! Cheers
I went with the Foretrex 801, but it's amazing the SE has all the same features that I use. And I don't think I realized how big of a deal the maps are that come with the app, Garmin "Explore," for these units.
How clear would those built in topo active maps you demonstrate there for the ride be on say a lake district mountain route where there's multiple paths in different directions and you need to be able to see the right path does it display footpaths well enough?
Hi Andy If I am following a GPX route file that has been planned on a more detailed os map the experience is better but the Topo Active maps will never replace the details of OS maps, you could look at installing some more detailed maps from somewhere like Talky Toaster as per this link which I know a lot of our customers like using - shop.talkytoaster.me.uk/shop?source=7KR5 You install these maps using a Windows PC and usb cable attachment , the guy at Talky Toaster has tech support if you get stuck installing his maps, we hope this helps
Sadly as we are a UK business i don't know the answer, i would call Garmin India and they will be able to help you out. I suspect any unit sold in India would come preloaded with local maps, a quick phone call with Garmin will confirm this. I hope this helps.
You may find this video useful, as I look at this subject in more depth - gpstraining.co.uk/blogs/news/the-frequently-asked-questions-we-get-about?_pos=18&_sid=426a6ae69&_ss=r#BATTERIES
Very good! I have a question. If you follow the map that you put on the GPS, while you are following it can you see what the altitude is at the current moment?
Hi, great video I just want to know some more feature regarding receiving calls. Normally i wear wireless bluetooth, so if i answer the incoming call from the watch, so the voice of the other person will come from the watch, mobile or my connected wireless bluetooth? If, by answering the call from the watch, the voice of other person comes from the, so does the watch has the option to switch the voice of other person to my connected bluetooth from the watch itself..? Please make a detail video of it Thanks....
Thanks for your feedback apologies not a feature we have tested yet, we would think that that sound would come through the paired headphones the same as navigation speech alerts do currently
Interested in seeing your opinion on the software quality of the Fenix 8. On the Garmin Forums (and other places) there is a lot of talk about bugs and missing features related to maps and navigation compared to Fenix 7 / Epix Pro (Gen 2): not being able to enable/disable 3rd party maps, missing turn by turn instruction for courses, no elevation profile during an activity, roads on third party maps have thick black borders (also an issue on Fenix / Epix, was an issue on Edge cycling computers but fixed now), no option to see navigation screens, map rendering slowly, to name a few. Interestingly the big fitness RU-vidrs didn't mention any of this...
I have downloaded the topo maps for europe region (via connecting to pc and usign garmin express) I see the maps on my epix pro gen 2, i do all the settings, but i still can't see contour lines, any idea why? I have contour lines on, detail to high, shaded relief show if available no matter what i do, i just can't see contour lines
Hi if the maps have all downloaded correctly you can change a setting in the watch to show contours and improve details, please note we have only tested in the UK garmin may not have added contours to all maps, from your main menu holding in middle left button scroll down and select map, you will see option to show Contours and change detail level, we hope this helps
After waiting, and doing lots of research, the fenix 8 doesnt do that much more than a fenix 7,and im glad i waited,i bought a fenix 7 with a huge discount, and im very happy with it,i think garmin are going to be hard pushed to justify the eye watering price of this watch, dont get me wrong, its a great looking piece,BUT,at that price its priced me out,and to be fair,my fenix 7 does exactly what i want it to do. I might buy one when they bring out a fenix 9 😂
Great video, I’m looking for my first garmin watch for mountain biking is this a good pick? When using the navigation does the route move with you like a car nav? Thanks
Hi yes the map moves with you and can be set to track up, you see yourself move across the map as a blue triangle icon position indicator, we hope this helps
Basically on OSmaps you can see the little separated lines that signify the actual offovual paths does the topographic maps have this same level of detail or are you just following a pink line and assuming it's correct? This is a really important feature for me as sometimes you have to be able to see where the paths meet up again if you had a mistaken detour or come off path its easy to get back on track later on
Hi Andy, Topo Active maps are far more basic as OS maps and just used as a guide, for more difficult navigation scenarios we use our own watches with the backup of a small handheld device with detailed OS 1:25k maps installed but in some case still find the watch is great for giving me off courses alerts , turn alerts and having lots of stats on my wrist which i can easily see when using walking poles but when needed I will take out my handheld device, kind regards
How would this fare in for example the lake district or peak district where there are multiple public footpaths would it keep you on track? I mean are they as detailed as OSmaps. Currently I use outdooractive on my phone and the tracking is inch perfect I can see all the paths on a mountain let's say and I'm just following my pink line so I'm not going to get lost. Can you confirm if the fenix 7 with the same GPX walking route be similar to that?
There is a full video in our 'online resource' taking you through set up, with a full set up sheet also - gpsonlinecourse.co.uk/ Sadly you have to pay for this, please accept my apologies, as you will appreciate if we supported every Garmin GPS unit in the world at no cost we would not still be in business.
Hi the device is not really meant for road navigation as smaller screen and no speaker for voice commands although Garmin city navigator maps wil lwork and Garmin do sell Bluechart compatible maps for the device, these are not maps we have used with the device ourselves as we are a walking & hiking company, Kind regards
It is a real shame Garmin stopped doing OS for Ireland. Garmin have a form we can all fill in asking for the product to come back - www.garmin.com/en-GB/forms/ideas/#:~:text=This%20form%20sends%20your%20suggestion,the%20best%20they%20can%20be! Fingers crossed.
This video looks at Map options on a Garmin Fenix and we installed OS maps on that watch, we could on afford (lol) the 1:50k, but you could install a section/ sections of 1:25k maps (as they come in regions) if you choose to - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hlaZ0-MVwMU.html&si=ljWjCp0XdGyGnO8Q
I use a etrex 20x now, for trail logs, when i metaldetects on fields. I get the logs out using Basecamp software from garmin. Can i do the same with eTrex se?
Andy many thanks for your help and support with the 67i I bought from you. Ive actually learned more about my 7x in this video than ive ever done with this watch. . We have talked about a 1 to 1 on the 67i. But the 8x is coming out soon. Maybe i could time the 1 to 1 with picking up my new watch also. Regards Dave
If you are looking at the Garmin Topo Uk & Ireland Light v11 map it shows mountain summits, height contours in 20 meter intervals, kind regards GPS Training
Thanks very much Andy. If pay the activation fee ONLY can I use the SOS function ONLY for the the next 365 days? Or, put another way, if I pay the Activation fee and 1 month Consumer fee on the first of May and immediately use for 7 days, I have 23 days left to use later in the year, can I use the SOS function ONLY during any of the 30 days I have paid for or can I use it THROUGHOUT the year?
Hi apologies Garmin have changed all of their inreach packages from the 18th September as shown in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6uo1daDrFrw.html - with the new package as long as you have one of the main packages for 1 month you can then downgrade to one called enabled for £7.99 a month which gives you unlimited SOS and pay as you go for messages, I hope this helps
