This is what is so amazingly beautiful about cultural spiritual dances like Hula. You can see the men and women embed such impactful historical hopes and dreams, connection to higher understanding, melding the present while preserving the past. It's transcendent. As I understand it is a competition, from an outsider perspective it seems to be a showcase, I am curious about the judges criteria on who wins.
The smaller guy in the middle, front row is so cute! His smile is adorable and so is his dancing! i love their other perf too, but the vibe here is complete different from that. Here, all of them are so happy and cheery it made me smile! ^_^~
I wish that Halau O Kamuela would do the song Ke'ei which was sung by Na Palapalai. I think that song would be awesome to watch and hear, especially this halau and kumu's interpretation of it.
Its amazing seeing these dances and i have to admit at 1:35 them turning their hips whilst dressed as xmas decorations really amused me. Please dont take offense, i know its traditional dress to go with traditional dance, it was meant as humour. I respect the dedication to their culture
I think this is beautiful, and it's fantastic that Indigenous cultures are reviving and preserving their traditions. It's like they've taken back their own souls as a people. We'll never understand the horrible damage that was done to Indigenous cultures worldwide, with forced compliance, genocide and Christianity, telling them they would go to a hell they never knew existed! (Which actually doesn't) How horrible! I've never understood why humans insist on killing each other for a damned chunk of dirt when there's more than enough land to go around for everyone. I'm not greedy enough, that's just me, I guess.
