Another good job done with the RR. I still have to remove my evap cartridge. I’ve looked at it & will get round to it at some point. Just been spending time on riding & trying to sort out issues on my other bikes.

G'day James. I would like to relocate my RR unit on my Interceptor as I've already replaced the original one at about 2000 km. I've delayed getting one from you because I'm an old codger and I'm unsure about international money transfers. I'm also a little unsure that I can actually do the work and my local Royal Enfield shop is not interested in doing it. I'm guessing that winning a set of cables would force me to have a go at doing it and also avoid the international money transfer. However, I'm probably not the bloke you want to send it to as I'm at the bottom of England in that place called Australia. Thanks for your consideration and your videos. Bill R

I would like to relocate my Regulator rectifier because I live with a group of lovely Minions and they need things to tinker with or they start breaking stuff. They are very good with tricky connectors in small spaces. And who doesn't love a Minion. It would be a slick operation, and we all know its about location, location, location.

I removed the OEM headers and cans and fitted Stratos headers and AEW cans which reduced the entire exhaust system weight by more than 12kg. The only way left to reduce weight further exhaust-wise would be a 2-1 system but I’m not keen on the ‘bare side’….

I removed my pillion foot rests after I changed the seat from dual to single, mostly motivated by weight reduction. As to changing to belt drive, I have finally got the chain off my bike (that took me a week to accomplish). I hope things progress smoother from this point.
@doughoffman9463
@doughoffman9463 19 часов назад
Have you considered removing the center stand and using a spool-less paddock style stand for workshop tasks? My 2002 CB750 had no center stand and I got along fine doing exactly that. Is that metal front fender heavier than the OEM plastic fender? An interesting project might be molding a pair of carbon fiber side covers to replace the heavier steel covers. Are the metal throttle body covers needed? If so maybe replace with custom molded CF. Same for the rear brake master cylinder cover. Perhaps delete the air box completely and replace with four small air-filter/air-induction-horns. You'll need a filter for the crankcase vent tube. The cast aluminum drive chain sprocket cover does not appear to be a structural or load bearing or fluid retaining part. Perhaps replace it with a CF molded dirt/water cover. Are alloy aluminum gearshift levers and rear brake foot levers available? The whole analog tachometer assembly could be replaced by a light-weight digital unit. You've already removed the evap canister, so if you haven't already remove the vapor hose leading from the fuel tank bottom-rear-right to (where? doesn't matter). Cap the metal pipe at the tank and convert your fuel fill cap to a venting cap (drill 1 or 2 small vent holes in it). Surely there is more. Run 5 miles a day.... :-)
@internetpolification
@internetpolification 19 часов назад
Yes, all Evap piping is long gone. The centre is certainly heavy! It seems like a lot of weight to haul about just for the occasional (if ever) puncture!

It’s a MOT failure if you remove the pillion pegs but still have a dual seat fitted. You are fine with the seat cowl though.👍
@internetpolification
@internetpolification 19 часов назад
Ah right. I think MoT’s can be a bit random, tbh. My mate Len’s bike passed with a double seat and no foot pegs. In any event, I’ll keep the seat with the cowl on!
@philipwhitehead
@philipwhitehead 13 часов назад
Completely correct . If you have a single seat or "seat cowl" then you do not need pillion pegs . If you have a dual seat and a conscientious MOT guy you are required to have pillion pegs . Excerpt from .gov mot rules 6.2.12. Footrests Single seat motorcycles do not need pillion footrests. If there’s an optional cowl replacing or covering the pillion seat at the time of test, you should consider it to be a single seat motorcycle. Some motorcycles first used on or after 14 June 1993 which are designed to carry a passenger may not be fitted with pillion footrests. Instead, they are fitted with hand holds attached to the frame or seat. Refer to the owner’s handbook if available. Defect Category (a) A footrest missing or insecure Major

I’ll definitely leave seat with the cowl on it then!

I would like to relocate my Regulator rectifier because my attitude to maintenance is to fix it before it goes wrong. This gives me loads of piece of mind when setting off. if you go to that extent you are really saying buying this bike was a mistake i want a faster one .
@internetpolification
@internetpolification 20 часов назад
No, I’m not saying that. I’m saying that weight reduction is a good thing to do, especially on a 49bhp bike. For example, the stock cans and headers are very heavy. Same with the battery. There’s almost a 20kg weight saving on those components alone. Why haul about unnecessary weight? After the mods on my bike, it’s now lighter, more manoeuvrable, better on fuel and nicer to ride. It’s not about speed

Interestingly I've had my 2020 interceptor since new and have put 30,000 km or so on it and have not had any issues, despite living in a part of Australia that gets really hot in summer. I wonder if its certain year models or between certain build dates where it mainly occurs that could have been due to defective batches of RRs. I know certain build date ranges have defective oil temp sensors, mine included. Touch wood though, it'll probably die on my next ride 😄

Trip machine leather wing panels. Having lost 16kg replacing stock headers & silencers, lead battery replaced with lithium battery. Touring with equipment is no problem for bike when loaded up. Plus James channel has enabled me to prevent alot of the known issues bike can suffer from as well as upgrades to somevstock components, i.e reg/rec extension cables, FJ1200 switchgear just using pull throttle cable modified by Venhill, speed sensor upgrade, Lucas P700 headlamp, Evap removal. Hey James; My you are quick with the videos! Just one correction... So far I have only vented the right side panel the RR sits behind. There is one vent in the front for incoming air and one at the rear to let it out. This is easy to do with a hole saw and some sand paper to smooth it out. Some aluminum auto grill mesh from Amazon, a hot glue gun and "Bob's your uncle". I am considering doing it all over again with some proper Interceptor side covers. Honda owns the copyright to Interceptor in the states, so we get that neutered model designation. But a set of replacements from India aren't really that expensive and would restore a bit of character. Cheers. DanO
