Nice demo. Can you compare model results with pipes and without pipes to see how big the difference is? Thank you

This is fantastic. Great video. I'm a stormwater designer and work with both SWMM and HEC-RAS. The recent development in 2d modelling capabilities have really taken the type of open channel modelling we can achieve to another level. We investigate urban flooding issues which often involve both networks and open channels and on many occasions have utilized swmm outputs as inputs into our HEC-RAS modelling. However, now with these additional capabilities we should be able to get the best of both worlds. It will speed up our workflow and should also produce more accurate results.

I am about to take a course in PC SWMM with IHE, do you advise me to cancel the course as I am fully aware and skilled with Hec Ras? Waiting for your advice. Thank You

@@Aldoodgrgr Hi, youtube comments are probably not the best place to request such advice nor to give it. However, I would comment that although there is some cross-over in capabilities, SWMM and HEC-RAS are different software packages with generally different purposes. It is horses for courses meaning that for any given modelling exercise, you should use the most appropriate package for the type of system you are assessing and what information you have at hand. For instance, with these new capabilities, would I use HEC-RAS in place of SWMM for piped network analysis? Absolutely not, nor would I consider this to be a goal of the introduction of these capabilities. I have not yet myself had the opportunity to use the package, but one advantage would appear to be that it can provide some 2d capabilities in urban areas where piped networks are the predominant drainage system (which other SWMM packages also offer - though at a price). This doesn't mean you should use it instead of SWMM though. The benefit here is that this will allow HEC-RAS modelling to be complimented by SWMM modelling not to replace it. I would say that the key benefit is that the introduction of piped systems will enable the catchments of urban drainage areas to be represented more accurately which in turn should ensure that a more robust method of determining the dynamic outflows of piped systems into open channel systems improving modelling outcomes for open channel systems in these types of catchments.

Hi, I am the primary developer for RAS Mapper, I made a lot of the map interaction, mapping results, profile and hydrograph plots for stormwater pipes. Great job on covering how to model stormwater pipes in RAS, you hit all the major points.

Thank you! I'm really impressed with how smooth the functionality is with the beta release! Great job to you and all the HEC folks for pushing the boundaries of hydraulic modeling! It's an exciting time to be a modeler!

Hey, I like how you are technically sound while explaining your tutorials. I wonder if it could be possible for you to make a set of videos with different topics like dam breach, sediment transport and other common topics. Thanks so much for this. :)

Hi, thank you for your video. I have a question. If I have computed my rainfall excesses previously, so I suppose that I would not need an infiltration layer right?
@learnhec-ras5762
@learnhec-ras5762 11 месяцев назад
Correct, if you compute your rainfall excess outside of RAS you would not need an infiltration layer. Keep in mind that if you want or need to have spatial variation in your infiltration, you will need to use gridded excess rainfall as an input to your RAS model. Hope that helps!
