Oh and the more alum mordant used the darker it'll get. The more red / pink you want the less alum mordant you use. Cream of tartar works as well. It is also extremely sensitive to reactive materials like synthetic brushes, tin, aluminum, iron, etc. Hence why distilled water & glass is so important. If your pigment has been in contact with reactive materials you might as well toss it. From what I saw you are using way way way too much alum.
I did the same thing! Is it legal keep and clean the feathers you show and use them in art? I heard there is a 1918 law prohibiting some feathers from being collected, even if molted. Thanks!
The music is "The Whole Story" by Alon Peretz. You can always see what the music is in my videos by going to the very end where I credit the musician. I'm glad you like it.
Thanks, BJ. Maybe my pans are a bit different. I tried your method and the max I can fit into the mini is five. When traveling, I always have my eye out for tins. Recently I’ve been finding soap tins that work beautifully for my handmade Beam paints that are too high for the mint tins. Happy painting!
Hello, I just wanted to say Thank You for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge. I noticed that you use the same types of Altoids tins that I use. I have found that you can put 6 half pans in an Altoids smalls tin - the bottom three up/down, top middle up/dpwn, top left and right pans sideways. Also, I use a regular Altoids tin for my larger palette. A standard Altoids tin can hold 7 full pans and 2 half pans (most I’ve been able to fit). You may also want to check out nurses clipboards. I have one that is a 2 piece that’s great as a travel board.
Great idea! You could actually improve this as to not require any border in your painting, by adding a flap at each open end of your carry box, that prevents the canvas from moving up and down. To secure the canvas to the cardboard base you could use a few strips of temporary double-sided tape.
I wasn't thinking taking my environmentally harmfull colors to nature, and I was really happy when I saw that in the pictures You didn't had cobalt in Your paragliding pallette. How ever Tens of thousands people who wach this are not going to notice that.
I know I can bring my dirty water back with me, but my sharp intellect and unparelled finesse comes with a fair bit of absent minded clumsiness, and I know I'd spill sooner or later, and I'm not even absolutely sure If I can keep the amount ending up in me small enouht for not causing any harm. Anyways if I sound like I'm overthinking things. Yes I do that a lot, but in this case it might not even be the case.
Thank you Alexandra. The story has begun to reveal itself to me. Such important lessons have been learned and I'm moving forward toward an even brighter light.
So sorry this happened to you. I cant imagine how this must feel . I have just recently been looking at your videos , I think you are amazing and wish you all the best when you recover from this .
Dear Chris, I think this is one of the most heart wrenching videos I've ever watched. What a painful thing to go through. But the Lord who gave us His word, is sovereign over all things. He is the great comforter & I pray will be your guide as you grieve & rebuild. My heart goes out to you.
I’m relatively new to water colors but the pulling method you are doing reminds of “The Flow Method” where get your acrylic paint very wet & put puddle in middle & pull “barely touching surface” so looks interesting to try with water colors. Know will need a brush that will pull up extra water. Ty.
Hi AppleKnocker56. You don't necessarily want a brush that hold a great deal of water unless you are attempting to cover a large area. In watercolor, you don't always add a lot of water. If you want a dark color, you will want to add only enough water to allow the pigment to flow, otherwise, your pigent is too diluted and you end up with a wash of color that is far too light. Most of the time, I use normal round watercolor brushes.
Where on RU-vid is the rest of video showing the making of bookbinding cradle? I came here from skillshare because I couldn’t find it on skillshare (you mentioned in a bookbinding video)

It was very interesting to see the decisions you made on this complex object and the liberties you took. I am always admiring with what great ease and quickness you make your drawings and decisions. I am a bit stuck with the dala I am just working on! This might help!
love your DIY travel paletts! One more idea for you - search in Google something like "cigarillos metal box" or "cafe creme". This is not portsigar, but boxes some tobacco companies sell their fancy cigarillos. Maybe you would like these boxes. They are produced in different sizes. Some are shallow, another (for two rows of cigarettes) deeper.
I love challenges and I love heights. Figuring out what I needed to do to be able to paint and use a fountain pen while paragliding was part of the fun. The most difficult part was figuring out how to attach both the fountain pen and its cap to my studio system so that if I dropped either one it wouldn't hurt someone on the ground ... not that anyone would be below me. I've also sketched from the top of a mast of a sailboat, from a tiny ledge on a cliff and from a narrow ledge on a building ... for the same reason. It's rarely about the sketch or painting that results from these challenges. It's all about the process and the experience of the time I spend in these unusual locations ... and, of course, the unusual point of view I have from these odd locations. For me, it's a bit of silly entertainment with a bit of added rush. I rarely paint while paragliding anymore. Instead, I simply enjoy running off a cliff with my son and flying with the birds.
Really enjoyed this. I'm going into Edinburgh on the first weekend in November and thought I might call in, but sadly the exhibition will just be finished.
thank you so much for showing your sketches and your impressions on your trip. I can easyly see all the years of observing and drawing you have and I wish I will acomplish a bit of it in my life. I know its getting better by practicing often 🙂 as a singer I am very much interested in the music you used in this video. I can say I like all your videos and especially the music on them! have fun with some shifting in your work. best regards from Germany Stefanie
Thanks, Stefanie. I'm sure you will accomplish a great deal of mastering if you welcome sketching as a daily practice. Everything around you is worthy of careful observation and a few strokes from a pen or brush.
I really like the pages with 9 small squares on each, so interesting and fun. I’m going to try that. Less intimidating than thinking of what to put on a full page, and makes a nice presentation ❤
Absolutely! So many fresh ideas can come from these ittle sketches that are made without fuss or bother. Sometimes these little thumbnails make it easier to zoom in on what really is of interest to you rather than trying to sketch everything around the point of interest.
