This channel is both an archive and a place for me to talk about all related aspects of New England culture, including traditional social dances, music, and other things.
What an AWESOME video! Thank you. I am going to learn all the songs and tunes in this video for my own repertoire. I needed a list of songs to concentrate on, now I do. This is also a wonderful historical record!
Hi Rivkah, I met you at MFC. I love your passion and direction. I found Contradance about 9 years ago and it has been my salvation through my chronic Lyme disease too. It keeps me going every week.
Love this Rivkah! I’ve never been to a traditional dance before though I love dancing and love all things historical. You have totally convinced me to seek out a dance!
Thank you for recording so many videos from the Ralph Page Weekend. It was an awesome weekend and I have enjoyed reviewing and sharing them all with my mom.
This is the 35th Annual Seacoast [NH] Holiday Dance. In the past it was done by the Lamprey River Band. The LRB couldn’t do it this year so Black Cat Quadrille volunteered to play, and Glenn got Gale to call. The band is Emeline Dehn & Ainsley Morrison, fiddles; Jason Morrison, bass & Peter Yarensky (me), piano. We had a great time playing; I hope you had an equally good time if you were dancing, and I hope if you’re viewing this you feel a smile developing and maybe even the desire to dance wherever you are!
(These dances sequences are: "Solstice Special" by Tony Parkes (0:00), "British Sorrow" (11:51), "The Crooked Stovepipe" (26:42), "Life on the Ocean Wave" by Duke Miller" (35:00), "Christmas Hornpipe" 45:35, "Gay Gordons" (1:04:55), "Lamplighter's Hornpipe" (1:16:36), a variant of "Mr. Fezziwig's Ball" by Jim Kitch (1:31:48), and "Shadrack's Delight" by Tony Parkes (1:47:47).)
