Lawn care vlog. Trying to share my experiences and ideas with others for information purposes. Maybe more of what not to do than anything. I am big fan of Hustler Super Z mowers, Echo power equipment, Bobcat Skid Steers, and Chevy Colorado pickup trucks. I like to run what I call a minimalist rig where I have only what I need on my truck for the 99% of what I do. This keeps obstacles at a minimum and lets me use the smaller truck and trailer for ease of parking and navigating traffic. I use customized string trimmers that are an Echo engine with the clutch drum pressed down so the Ryobi half shaft and attachments can be used. The attachments slide into the custom rail on the truck bedside for ease of use. Since the attachments are Ryobi they do not walk away like a PAS or Kombi would. I run customized Hustler Super Z mowers that have been lightened and fitted with dual deck lift arms. All of the mowers have deck modifications to leading edge to enhance first pass cut quality.
@@sclawns5257 I was dealing with this this morning which is why I was watching the videos on removing blades. I did lawn care for almost 20 years, but I never had this happen before. It would not come off with the impact driver either. Anyways, I finally just took a torch to the bolt and heated it up and then put the impact on it and it came right off.
I do not believe in removing any organics so all I do is leave clippings in but I don’t run a mulch kit because I don’t want to create clumping. I like loose well distributed clippings to fall in between the tall canopy and feed the soil microbes
@@sclawns5257 I've been using mulching decks for 15 years, and have not experienced any negative effects on my lawns. I'm not as technical or biological as you are, but I think mulching the lawn helps in ways you are describing. As far as clumping is concerned - the more powerful the engine the better! Thanks!
It has good cut quality. I feel like it’s a little heavy in the front and I had to put taller tires on to get the cut height that I prefer for environmental reasons.
SC, I want to ask you something: What do you think about mulching the lawn? You seem to be more technical than all other lawn guys on RU-vid. So, let me know. Thanks!
Of all the democracies the world has ever known... all have failed! -Thomas Jefferson We haven't been a Constitutional Republic since before The Act of 1871.
I came to say that this was a bit of a joke piece of equipment, but in the end it did a pretty decent job and you did it with what you had, so nice work!
Yes, but as I see it, it can’t carry as much material, but it can get up real close to tight places, cause you have your standing right over it. You can back right to the garage as shown in the video that I did a couple later the material was dropped real close to the garage and need to pull it away, and the way that it can rotate you maneuver better than a tractor would
I’m not sure about that except for I’d rather have an oxygenating and moisture retaining material center might be better possibly than the sand, but I would have to think that is made with plastics and we’re having problems with that
I have always put off mowing my yard I only do it when the plants become too obvious and I risk code enforcement stopping by. I was cutting a lush section of the easement a couple weeks back when what I thought was a small snake slithering on the sidewalk. It stopped and I got a closeup look It was a lizard snake I have only seen them on wildlife programs. I put the mower away.
Definitely want to have full coverage if you live in Florida for sure. With the weather getting to the extreme that it is, it's really important for gardeners to realize they can still grow trees in Florida, they just have to be smaller ones. People should be thinking of the grass as a micro canopy for the soil. similar to how low growing groundcovers work, or small bushes and shrubs with a mounding or spreading habit. Micro canopies definitely work. People that mow their grass that short in Florida are nuts. Just wait until there's a big storm with epic flooding. Those are the people whose yards will suffer the most.
You are not alone in your thought processes, we are few but we make impacts.... people in my area have started to change their ways slowly just from seeing the work that I do and how I do it and when I do it. How I have turned properties completely around from brown and barren to green and lush.... the Earth fixes itself in its own time... work with nature not against it. We are systems, machines have systems, the environment has systems.... keep pushing my guy.
It's the same with how people do their landscape beds as well. People putting weed barrier fabric into the ground, keeping nutrients from getting to the soil and the roots of the plants. Same concept with doing rock beds heating up the ground and killing the top layer of microbes just so they don't have to add mulch every now and then. Another thing you could talk about, just an idea.
Perceptions of how value is delivered plague our civic contractors. It seems in their eyes if they are not blasting clippings something is wrong and our summers in the the north, north west are bone dry for months. We get grass and mulch fires from tossed cigarettes on windy days.
SO, on this mower you DON'T have ANY safety switches in the circuit? Does your engine have a Oil level / pressure switch at the filter? How is that wired?
I had to do the same thing on an old Snapper 50 in zero turn to get drum off. Hadn’t seen your video until after. I managed to miss the key way on spindle. Anyway I feel your pain. Most people would give up or screw it up.I felt great when it finally broke loose after cutting like a surgeon. Good job
Always good to see a video from you. Since the belt broke. I would check the condition if the idler bearing. Not to mention using OEM belts. I had a STENS belt on a Turf Tracer only last a few hours before chunks got taken out of it. The idler was a bit rough so I replaced it and the spring. Got about 2 seasons on that belt now and it still looks pretty good.
@@sclawns5257 It's a tough job on a manual PTO tracer. Unless the dealer has a secret to doing it quick. The deck belt, PTO Jackshaft have to come off to get the drive belt changed. it sucked when the belt had chunks in it after so just changed it. So it really does help to make sure it's all good in there before going back together so it won't fail again.
Good info. What's the lowest you would cut St.Augustine in central FL ? I picked up a real nice yard ,very big , it's 99% St, Augustine and gets quite a bit if of shade. Irrigation runs 3 times a week. Thanks in advanced.
@@sclawns5257 I've got a kubota I think transport height is 5.5" that's as high as I can cut. I'll give it a whirl, gonna be interesting to see how it turns out at the end of summer.
I’m thinking it wouldn’t be concentrated enough to kill in that scenario. When mowing where homeless are using toilet it can come through in that material as well but probably not lethal levels. What concerns me is discarded packets getting airborne by mower blades etc.
@@sclawns5257 I'm no drug expert but, I think the main reason it's laced with it , is to make the drug more addictive. Either way 2nd hand smoke is not good for somebody trying to stay healthy. I see what you're saying hitting a baggy with a blade is not good. I do wear a buff when mowing, even in the summer. I try not to even breath the dust.
If the cap is vented, why do you have to loosen the bolts on the Hydro pumps? I thought what you loosened on the Hydro pump was to put the mower in a neutral position, so as to move it when it has no power.
This is the procedure so that any air can be purged. I assume that it sends flow through a bypass loop so that air bubbles can’t compress and blow out a seal
I went to Week’s auction in Ocala and where there used to be dozens of overstock their was none and been watching marketplace but none have come up. I bought the machine from a local guy who has two more so I may go look at his
Appreciate the video. I have a super mini z w lots of oil or hydro leaking. Would ya recommend changing the o rings first? Hard to pinpoint as underneath has lots of oil all over Thank you kindly
The super minis were kind of cool I had one long time ago. The cool thing is they’ve got the same hydros basically but a lot lighter chassis not sure about where yours would be leaking.
