DO NOT let a neurosurgeon do a lower lumbar fusion unless you have exhausted every single option. I am a long distance runner and had a neurosurgeon tell I would never be able to run again without this operation. I got another opinion from another doctor who told me to not run for 6-8 months and see how it goes. I took my MRI to a chiropractor and he said he can fix my herniated disk in 3 sessions. He did exactly that. Less than 3 months later I ran a half marathon with no pain. The neurosurgeon would have ruined my back for a lifetime.
They went in from the front and the back. It was a 19 hour surgery I believe. Still in pain to this day but I can walk! I had fragments of my spine pushing into my spinal cord, working their way in a mm at a time since the army didn’t believe I was injured at the time. I went over a week running, doing sit ups, normal soldier stuff with a shattered back. I wish I would have stood up for myself a little more back then but honestly my back was so screwed it probably wouldn’t have made much difference getting the surgery a week or so earlier. Anyways, I only made it about 5 seconds into this video. I’m sorry!!!! I will add to my watch later and possibly try to watch it again in the future because it’s so interesting I am just not over the trauma yet after over 10 years :(
I have 6 and c7 fracures and some d5 caused by and accident my symtoms are bladder and bowel i can control them but when its time is time i have double vision and ear noises just in the right pretty much. I'm 6 weeks in recovery from epidural lipomatosis and discectomy of L5-S1. The back pain is finally getting better walking however is still a challenge, They cut me from L1-S1 so I am in PT and its going well and I hope to be walking normal by April. I had know idea that recover would take so long!
