Good ol' BTC Minx phone-in system there - I know virtually every BBC Local Radio had the same system, but I wonder how many commercial stations had it?
Typical bbc. At the start fiona (Tory) Bruce said we will have condition reports from all over Britain. But wait Scotland is still in Britain (for now anyway ). No Scottish report on conditions or conditions in N Ireland just constantly going on about the Capitol by the way it’s the (English) capital Edinburgh is Scotlands capital. Never mind independence soon and first thing will be to kick off our airwaves will be bbc England. Pravda for the forelock tuggers.
@@oliverek7 yes I remember the first half of February 2009 in Leeds was way snowier than anything that has happened since, with the exception of maybe December 2010 (which was snowy for the entire month, not just the first half). I think it was that time when Britain was like an ice rink, and I lost my original Citizen EcoDrive watch when I fell over (and it was never seen again). Maybe the only time I remember falling on the ice properly.
Idriis Sany nope this year had a lot of snow and very cold temperatures. It's February and there is heavy snow in Scotland. Also next week the temperature in London is going to be under 0 at night and 2 - 3 degrees at day time. This is very cold for February.
Here is what I do not understand. I am actually from the U.S and grew up in Northern Maine which is about 30 miles from the Canadian boarder. In my neck of the woods, this is considered a dusting. I actually used to take drivers education during storms like this. What I do not understand is this, One I would think that somewhere in the U.K there are no snow plows for days like this. We also after a road gets plowed, a layer of dirt and sometimes rock salt would be put down afterwards. I am wondering if in Britain if the people can get snow tires or studded tires. These type of tires would go through this snow like a hot knife to warm butter. Temperatures in my neck in the woods can reach up to -31 celsius and I have actually have gone to school in these conditions. I am thinking that in Britain one doesn't see weather conditions that you have seen very often and because of that purchasing these items would be a waste of money. I can understand that.
Jacqueline Jordan Yep. That's how it is. It's not worth the money. We don't have 'true' winters. 2009 was a big year for snow and particularly ice as temperatures fell to -20c overnight. It was really beautiful. The ice glistened like crystals. It happens so little that we really don't know how to deal with it. School boilers freeze up and they have to close. We see it as an opportunity for an unpaid holiday as some can't get to work and since it doesn't happen often it's a brilliant excuse to go play in the snow.
Luckyyyy , we never get that in Greece, I hope this year a massive snowstorm heats us right in front of the face, we want schools closed and most IMPORTANTLY, SNOWWW <3
Absolutely. May be a very cold forecast but Tomasz can no doubt heat things up in an instant! He looks very hot and sexy in those jeans! Wish they would present the weather like this more often!
Unfortunately the UK and Western Europe is in for another mild overall winter, despite the recent chilly spell El Niño has ensured that the high level blocking will continue to be a rare occurrence this winter. For snow lovers, there is a very small glimmer of hope from mid February onwards. Watch this space.
And this monday, it closes down. After nearly 23 years on the air, SSE have told them to "get orf our chimney" and nobody is able apparently to find a new transmitter site. Sad times.
