Thanks and good info to know. Reminds me that there are often hidden screens behind different on screen items. In a previous video you had mentioned that for the traffic info. Was able to “click” 2 different areas recently. One being- “there is live traffic ahead” and the other being “ you are on the fastest route”. Hitting each one provides different info. Interestingly, when I clicked “ you are on the fastest route” it opened up and provided me a route that would save 2 minutes. Apparently, I wasn’t on the fastest route.
Keep Garmin's routing options trade-offs in mind... If you ask Garmin for the route, it offers one with its estimated "Fastest" time. If a shorter distance is YOUR real preference, click on the "Route" option (double arrow icon) just below the recommended Garmin route read-out. You might discover a much shorter distance that's better, but was NOT recommended due to its slightly longer estimated travel time. If you feel the less-distance option is a better fit for you, take it. I always double check Garmin's recommended route and compare it to other routes before I launch. Pausing a few extra moments at the start might yield a route that's closer to what you need.
Thanks, good info to know. I’ve definitely experienced this while traveling. Could be a serious issue if you’re very low on fuel and searching for a gas station. I recall being on a long trip in unfamiliar territory and thinking there would be a lot more gas stations around. There weren’t. Remember thinking….really hope this gas station is there and didn’t go out of business, because if it did I’m in serious trouble. One of these one stop light towns. Thankfully, the gas station was there because the car was on fumes at that point.
I remembered seeing this model at BJ's back in 2015-2016, and I was expecting to get this model to complete my newer Garmin nüvi models after gotten the Garmin nüvi 2599LMTHD back in January 2017. I heard that the HD traffic is really good.
I have a Nuvi 2460 LMT. Has been a great lil unit for me most of the time. There have been times where it led me a stray, or it couldn't find the address. Voice Command annoys me, when listening to the radio it will activate the Voice Command feature. I tried updating it the other day but it said there wasn't enough space so I told it to use the micro SD card that is in it. Tried several times but it could not find it. Now I believe the battery in it has died and it will not turn on anymore. Yesterday it lasted enough to get me to my appointment but it started behaving funny on my way back home. A few miles down the road I noticed the map looked strange so I rebooted it a few times and that didn't work so I unplugged it and powered it off and it would not power back on. I had to use my phone GPS to get home. I'm looking to find a new battery for it and a new Garmin GPS. My wife has a Nuvi 2557 LMT that she does not use so I may use that one for now. I don't like the Nuvi 2557, from what I remember from the last time I used it, it would select long routes to whatever destination. I don't know what Garmin changed in its maps/software to make do that but my Nuvi 2460 would pick routes that were in half the time and it was the older model.
This is interesting! You might try "Find - Coordinates" or CTRL-T to paste the coordinates from Google Maps. Imho it is faster and easier that way.. Cheers! Ed.
Absolutely no regrets with my 52MT. Had it for two years now and it has been rock solid for 15,000 miles' worth of trips. I have no need to upgrade any time soon.
Thanks, good info. I like the cable you have above….works well in the 12v splitter I have for those times I also need to charge my phone while driving. Good idea to make sure your backup also has a built in traffic receiver or be sure to have the GTM 36 cord on hand. Like the lane advisor and that traffic works well. The downside is no voice command. It’s not often that I use it but very nice when needed.
True, it has no voice control, but it gets the job done. The Drive 52 isn't down to cheap-as-chips price yet, but getting there. Were I going cheap, a no-traffic nuvi 52LM or 54LM outfitted with 32GB microSD card would work. The screens on those are just as bright as the Drive 52.
*_This USB power cord will power the Drive 52 WITHOUT the need for a Garmin charger_* amzn.to/3K1wEhY (Amazon affiliated link) I have tested this personally (it is the cable used in this video) and it does work.
Ok, you are right about the heat. I do not want to mount on the glass. How else can I mount it???? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I have a Honda Accord 2009.
Garmin friction mount. You can see them here amzn.to/4e6vY7C (Amazon affiliated link) In the '09 Accord sedan, this can probably be placed above the center vents and should work there. No drilling/taping required.
Finally, a decent explanation how to do that. Thank you! Btw: GATSO is (used to be?) a firm that makes (made?) speed trap equipement... Don't ask me how I know that 😞 Ed.
Note: Yes, there is a toggle on/off for proximity alerts on later model nuvi and DriveSmart models. In the next video after this one, I will show where this is and how to use it.
If I didn't have a Garmin and only had the phone to work with, I would use Google Maps to look up locations and get GPS coordinates, then use Magic Earth to navigate with.
Hi Just bought a 66 yesterday Do you have any idea other than the supposed they outline in the manual editing the Up Ahead feature Thanking you Ross NZ
Where do you put in the SD CARD/ there's only a slot for the connector to the car. Do I use that? Thank you! And can I take it out when driving so I can plug it into the car? I'm confused.
The microSD card slot is located on the bottom of the Garmin nuvi 2597LMT and can use a 32GB card and no larger. If used in the United States, it is required to use a memory card to fit the latest USA map data. Use the Garmin Express software to update the maps *after* installing the card first www.garmin.com/express If you do not have a Garmin charger for the car, you can use this specific inexpensive power-only USB cable to power the 2597 amzn.to/3K1wEhY (Amazon affiliated link) That cable is power-only for the 2597 in the car and not to be used with a computer.
