That whole family is a major train wreck. They are all unhealthy and overweight. Watching them eat it's nothing but fried foods and sugar. June spent all of Alanna's money she was supposed to save for her college education. The money was supposed to be in a Coogan account. June thinks not that she is "sober", everything should go back normal and just let the past bury itself. Of course life doesn't work that way. Pumpkin and Josh are trainwrecks themselves. Josh could never find a job and keep it so I guess they are living off of the money they make on the show. What they don't seem to know is all good things eventually come to an end. They are living why out of their means. All the girls except two of them never graduated high school. They all began having children when they were supposed to be going to school. Alanna has been home more times than she attends college. If you want to keep your children on the straight and narrow, make them watch this show. Hopefully they are smart enough not to make these people roll models.

Jessica Gunning certainly gave her best portraying Martha. Finding empathy for someone suffering from mental illness is no shocking news, not everything has to be manichean. Martha is more complex than just a villain.
Again, the “this is a true story” at the start is typed. It’s a plot device, typed by the show’s character, which comes back in the final episode. So it’s DONNY’S true story. Not gadds. Which was addressed with a statement at the end that says “based on true events, but characters and events have been changed for tv”.
