Je crois que j’ai entendu cette pièce il y a un certain temps, mais pas du tout récemment. Grâce à cette vidéo youtube, cela fait longtemps que je n’ai pas entendu de musique de flûte. Il serait préférable de collaborer avec un orchestre.
Thanks Rob. We agree that it is a masterpiece! BTW, we're taking this production on the road this November/December. Check our website for dates and locations. israelichamberproject.org
@@icp And by the way the production itself is stunning! I should have mentioned that in the first post. I was so fascinated I almost missed an appointment.
An important contribution to the Duo Violin and Cello Repertoire. This ranks way up there. This should get played much more often. Great harmonics! Enjoyable
This is a stunningly beautiful performance. The chamber orchestra arrangement makes all the musical details crystal clear. Tenor Karim Sulayman has a pure, even timbre that falls gratefully on the ears and his diction is perfect; I got every word of Agee's text. This is the second time I've heard this haunting work with a tenor (the first was Russell Thomas' lovely performance also available on RU-vid). I won't give up any of the soprano performances, but it's good to hear Barber's exquisite music a little differently.
i watch for 2 seconds,,as soon as i see an idiot dancing clarinet,,stoltzman imitator,,i turn off,,and shut out channel...put your energy into music not dancing
Wonderful example of Rabin's full range of evocative, expressive playing and technical mastery. Excellent audio quality. My teacher, Elaine Lee Richey (1958 Naumburg Prize Recipient), shared a practice cabin with Rabin at Meadowmount, and was Galamian's teaching assistant at Curtis and Julliard. Near the end of his life, he considered Rabin the best of his numerous great students. Thank you for posting !
Star Trek bought me here. Thank you Star Trek…it’s because of Star Trek that I read Dickens, Mark Twain, developed a love for classical music, and even lead me to Jesus and religion. I owe Star Trek a lot.
I came across this many years ago in Kubrick’s ‘Barry Lyndon’ and have listened to it countless times since. This is certainly the best live recording I have found. Bravi!
I was thinking I was dead at my funeral since I had a fever fueled dream while watching Star Trek NG. Of course, being a musician, I had to know what it was. Brahms was such an underrated composer. Wagner hated him, and the two would spar while writing reviews of each others music. There is so much to learn about composers, and this music period is my favorite.
If the harpist would bother to close his fingers, he would get more clearly defined and purposeful notes out of his gorgeous instrument. And without twanging or banging the strings. He did not study with the right people. He will get tendonitis in his wrists and lower arms playing like ths.
The playing is superb! The camera work is utterly dreadful. The director (if there is one) has no idea of where to focus the camera during the music. During the viola solo, they show the violins, at the very end when they should show the entire group, they focus on the violas. Often the camera seems to meander about from side to side irrespective of which instrument or group of instruments are prominent in the music.. How can such superb playing be paired with such aboninable directing & camera work?
