I love basketball. Respect everyone that paved the way. But I am watching this and thinking about people saying Wilt could bench 500 pounds and jump out the gym and run a 4.4....and I DON'T SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!! I get t hat he was older, but is 35 considered ancient? I am trying to be open minded, but what am I missing. This is slow, unathletic and boring! Again, please tell me what I am missing!
This was Havlicek's first year, his offensive game had not fully developed but the Celtics had a lot of confidence in him already at this point. He would develop into perhaps the best all around player in the NBA from the late 60s to the mid 70s. Elgin Baylor was a superstar already in the 62-63 season.
Also dont try to compare Wilt and Kareem to the last 20-30 years. Wilt at this stage was alot slower , early in his career he ran the floor as well as anyone , being a track and field guy. Also all this talk about how athletic and fast todys players are may be true to an extent however- They do not Call travelling on anyone with the Bogus "Eurostep" Crap - the players basically get a running start at the rim and almost never get called for travelling. Back then if you took one extra step you were called and would turnover the ball. Back then you had to outposition and out manuever your opponent you could not just run around carrying the ball with you. With everyone spotting up at the 3 point line it creates massive open lanes to travel as much as you want. When I see literally how many steps they let guys get away with I am not all that Impressed with their ability
This Game and Video is Not Wilts Best against Kareem this is the Game MIlwaukee broke their win streak. Wilts Best Performance was in the Latter part of the Playoff Series in 1971-72 when the Lakers eliminated the Bucks. Elvin was an All Star and NBA vet who had been in the league for several years. Jamaal gave away 3 inches and about 40-50 lbs. And held his own every bit. He showed why he was a well-deserved rookie of the year that season. He was Barry's biggest support that championship season.
When I watch games like this I really ask myself how is it possible to say that today's NBA is better and that players are more skilled and that defenders defend more, only a blind person will say that, 'cause man this was a great game!!!!
1989 pippen was still garbage. No toughness. In such important game, he chose to attend his head injury. Leaving MJ alone with no help. He does that again with migraine in 1990 game 7. Guy has no shame or guilt. Pippen literally lived off jordans greatness. He would be nothing without jordan.
The league was far more physical back in those days. The refs let you play. It was literally no blood no foul. Today’s players are not capable of playing back then. Too much crying that they where fouled. Especially Lebron.
I'm sorry but after watching this there's no way Chamberlain and Jabar would have been able to handle Olajawhon and Shaq You see when they have an equal talent guarding them they don't score a whole lot,Shaw would have 40 every night playing these guys and 60 every night playing the rest of the league.
