I was at a company meeting few years ago and I think it was a in house quartet and by the time the dinner was done, I stayed back - the only person from the 200+ group - to listen to some good music. The quartet looks like they didn't had to go anywhere else that night and they playes about five more songs. I even asked if they can take a request and the only song I could think of was "Take Five." It was awesome. I still have the recording.
I Love {Take Five}... From The Moment I First Heard It In 1977.. I Interpret The Piece As.. Take Time To Relax Your Mind... I Was In Choir.. In 10th Grade... Meaning Don't Get Mad At Things.. Just Relax, And Take Five To Think About It... 😎😎😎 Yep...
I saw Brubeck a few times in St. Louis. Each time he played this tune, he introduced it by reminding us that W.C. Handy had written it as a tango, so he was playing it as such. This version is very similar to what Brubeck played at those shows, as opposed to earlier renditions he recorded. I’m glad this is archived, as those were memorable performances of this great song.
This recording is HORRIBLE, which is too bad, as I would have love to have heard it sounding like something. The performance started out very nicely, but when the guy on sax that sounds like it's under a heavy carpet entered, I gave up...before my ears bled to death. It looks like there's a mic right in front of him, but it sounds like he's coming through the piano specific mics. Weird.
72 now. First heard this as bumper music on a local DJ’s show as a teen. It has been in the background music of my life since then, with occasional volume jumps to the foreground. It is my most favorite tune ever. ❤
It is my honor to say that for the first in your 8 years someone new is commenting I’m in my 20s and I’ve just only discovered this song on Apple Music. The moment I heard this music and that vocal I almost cried, I was frozen in Awe and joy.🥹 I will thank god that these amazing people and culture were not wiped from memory. May this endure the ages. I wish you a good day, thank you for creating such an amazing piece of art.🙏🥹
So not Jewish but jew-ish. My great grandmother spoke Yiddish. I don't have any Jewish blood as far as I know, but when you are close friends with neighbour's and treat each other like family you start to absorb each other's customs.
I was privileged to be in the Westminster Choir that performed the world premiere of the Gates of Justice. It was easily the highlight of my 4 years there. David's keyboard solos in the piece were stunning during our rehearsals. What a treasure he was.
