Is cotton sustainable? Maybe not. Sustain means to sustain a set amount forever with an increasing population. So sustaining means growing with the growing population and cotton takes a whopping amount of water and is heavily saturated with pesticides that are Im quite sure persistent in the environment. It won't be sustainable with a growing population with a hybrid monoculture and all other breeds kept out. There are very strict rules in California to grow cotton yourself so I do not see cotton as a good sustainable crop for clothing but I do see Flax and Hemp as a good sustainable crop and one that makes clothing that will last longer than cotton. Flax is still a heavy feeder of water and does like healthy soil but can grow just about anywhere. It is a very strong fiber and one that does not need dosing of chemicals but Im sure they would find some off the wall reason to justify using billions of gallons of poison on the plants which will eventually make its way to you and likely cause illnesses. What is the goal of sustainable cotton? We need many many varieties of cotton and grow it organically and be ok with sharing some with the bugs but also have healthy soils to begin with. Farm the soil and the cotton will be the secondary crop and the one that will make money and one that does not need poison dosing to rid the plants of bugs. Diversity in the field and farming of the soil is the only way. No more pesticide or herbicides on our plants or food.
Most of what you said has merit to it but the statement of the deforestation for crop land is misleading because of the need of new crop land because the land loses its fertility but the land regains some fertility because farmers now normally swap crops each year and also spread fertilizer to get some nutrients back into the soil
Yes I do and have recently filled a paper and now I’m trying to contact my government for funding a project on single use waste plastics fingers crossed i will hear back then
The best way to get rid of plastic is to stop making it. Go back to reusable glass. Our water is full of PFAC. Chemicals are in our vegetables. The plastic is in everyone’s blood. There are plants that chase away bugs. Our oceans are full of plastic. IT IS KILLING US & OUR EARTH 🌎. IT ISDESPICABLE THE WAY BIG COMPANIES ARE AFTER THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR $. Manufacturing. Plastic is a quiet death ☠️
Beautiful and very informative video..I chanced upon your video while looking for bamboo brushes..very thought provoking.. it made me think.. Usually we look at only one side of things while being sustainable and eco friendly,- the positive impact part, but miss looking at the negative impact this could have on the environment, habitat etc.. In the rush to become eco friendly, we should not end up doing more harm to the environment.. Leaving as minimum a foot print on the environment is what we need to work at..
02:21 Humans are responsible for that, not plastic. At the same time plastic saves earth coz if we replace plastic with alternatives like using paper bags , we have to cut many trees and replacing plastic internals (typically insulators) with rubber materials, u've change ur mobiles for every few months as rubber starts swells up due to heat generated. And finally every natural resource will be at scarce . So what i say is " Plastic should not be banned rather we should change the way we use it, means Single usage of plastic must banned.
