Colin Steed, Artist & Tutor. I created this channel not only to showcase my work, but also as a tutorial for all artist and leisure painters. I demonstrate, working in my garden studio and plein-air onsite where I try to capture the mood of the day.
Please feel free to comment on a video and take a look at my website, colinsteedart.com where I have some of my latest paintings for sale.
Thank you so much. I enjoyed capturing the moment, whatever the weather. Thank you for watching and supporting my channel. It's very much appreciated 🎨 🤠 👍.
Colin your painting is sensational, I really liked it, your videos are a real lesson, I'm a beginner in watercolor and started after I retired. I'm enjoying it and learning a lot from your teachings in the videos, thank you very much. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
You make it look that simple to paint, and your explanations always teach something important. Like so much your calm when you paint. Like your new firm. Regards, Sandra Giuria
Greatly appreciate you Colin for taking the time explaining the process you have planned to create this scene, I am amazed at the pale colours has enabled the individual items shine out giving you a brilliant painting with lots of things going on. Thanks again for another enjoyable video stay safe and healthy 🙏 👍
Hi Colin. Love your work. What are the colors in your palette? Also, do you use convenience greens, and if yes, which one or ones would you recommend? Cheers from California.
Hi, thank you for your enquiry regarding the colours I use. I rearly use a ready mixed green. I prefer to mix my greens using the colours in my pallette. These are the colours I have in my box. They are all Winsor & Newton professional quality watercolours from the tube. Raw sienna, cadmium yellow, cadmium lemon, cobalt blue, French ultramarine blue, Winsor blue (red shade), light red, Alizarin crimson, Indian red, cadmium red, burnt sienna, burnt umber. I occasionally use the Winsor & Newton Paynes Grey. I try to use just a small number of the colours on each painting. Thank you for watching and supporting my channel 🎨🤠👍
@@colinsteedartist Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I have a very similar palette but using Cotman. My only professional W&N colors are Hooker's green and transparent yellow. I wish you the best. Cheers.
The values ink drawing first is something I never tried doing but your painting is perfect so that really seems to help to get dark and light values because the colors in the watercolor painting is beautifully done!👍😊
How nice to hear an Essex accent. I lived 50 odd years on Canvey, moved to highlands of Scotland 5 years ago. I never knew I’d miss that accent lol. I like your style too.
Thank you. I was born in Essex, and both my parents came from Essex. Accents should be preserved, not lost. Thank you for watching and supporting my channel. I really appreciate it 🎨 🤠 👍.
@colinsteedartist how kind, thanks. All of my family are from Essex ir North London as far back as we can see. Everyone who's English up here, and there's probably a 50% mix tends to come from Yorkshire, Essex accent I never hear.
Thank you so much for your detailed descriptions of the creative choices you make, especially in composition and in color. Also - starting to paint the leafing of a tree in the middle rather than the top - brilliant 👏! I finally got one of those Prolene riggers like yours, and I am very pleased with the level of control I can get with it, much better than my soft sable ones. And it holds a good amount of paint, too. I learn so much from you! 🎨
Thank you very much, Colin. Lovely work. I remember painting this landscape when I had started watching your channel and my total failure .. This time I've done better though it's still far from what I would like to get. Thanks for the clear detailed explanations because I believe it's important to know not only "where" and "how" but also "why I am doing this".
Very interesting tutorial demo as always Colin, thanks greatly for sharing your ideas and explaining clearly how you plan on creating a brilliant scene
Thanks greatly Colin for sharing your talent and thoughts using acrylics, I'm still finding it abit scary when I am using it but you have created a lovely scene which will be for great memories. Thanks again stay safe and healthy
Hi, Colin. I turned to acrylic's after using oils many years ago. They dry quickly, and I find them easier to use. I don't paint many acrylic's in a year, but it makes a refreshing change from my normal medium, watercolour. I hope you enjoy watching 🎨🤠👍
@@colinsteedartist Yes I know what you mean over the drying time. I've recently begun to have a go with them but living near Nice, France the temperatures have been +32 degrees so the paint dries almost as soon as it touches the paper. I'm going to wait until the temperatures cool off a bit & then have another go
