If unplugged does it still track the vehicle?
@GaryWaterman-z5k
@GaryWaterman-z5k 5 месяцев назад
No, it would not because being plugged in allows data to transfer but it also provides the power needed for the device to work. Having said that, it would be a violation for a driver who is required to be on an ELD to be driving without a functioning device, and company policy should reflect this as well because the employer is obligated to have their drivers on this device. So, if a driver unplugs it and drives, they are in violation. To have a gap in this data and GPS positioning is a violation for the driver and points for the company as well. Another thing to be aware of is if a driver unplugs it and drives, in many cases they become guilty of Falsification or RODS (Logs) since their log does NOT include ALL "work" when they are required to log ALL work. A driver is also setting themselves up for bigger trouble than they realize. Example: Lets say you are heading from Houston to Los Angeles but those pesky HOS rules dont allow as much time as a driver wants. So, the driver starts their log as usual in Houston but when they get to Fort Stockton they unplug the device and continue on to El Paso. That gives a driver what many drivers "perceive" as a "free" 3hrs or so. Once in El Paso they stop for 10 hrs, plug it back in and continue on to LA being legit, taking another 10hr break around Desert Center before finishing their trip into LA after that 2nd 10hr break. To a driver, they put that whole situation in their past. Forget what they did and continue on with their trucking lives. The problems here are many. 1. The data didnt go away. Its still there and it stays forever waiting for a safety dept to discover it, or for an in office DOT audit that can easily find it, or heaven forbid that data gets subpeona'd by a lawyer as part of some lawsuit that happens many months later over a horrific day where somebody is now suing the drivers company and also suing the driver personally. This being a lawsuit where the driver is hoping to convince a judge or jury that they are a caring individual that plays by the rules. Next thing you know is this data is blown up on a 4ft by 6ft white board in the middle of a courtroom for everybody to see. But what will they see? They will see the DRIVER stated (On their log) he drove Houston to Fort Stockton. Then some magic happened and the truck disappeared from the map and re-appeared in El Paso some 13hrs later with nobody driving it. In fact, your data will show you stopped in Fort Stockton for 13hrs, not El Paso because Fort Stockton is where the data stream ended. Its only when you plug it back in 13hrs later in El Paso that you now show you are in El Paso. None of this looks like a caring person that plays by the rules. Other problems are, when a driver is trying to manipulate a log, they tend to focus on the graph and what an officer may see at a roadside inspection. But, when you look at your log and graph, that isnt what an officer is looking at when you transmit your logs to them. They get what you get, but they get additional data reported by the ECM on the truck as well. When you transmit, the officer will see something like the truck is saying it drove 5 drives yesterday, but the drivers graph only has 3 drives on it. And one of those missing drives if 3hrs long. Busted. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out who drove from Fort Stockton to El Paso when the driver has readily admitted they drove TO Fort Stockton and AWAY from El Paso. They get more info when you transmit logs than you see when looking at your logs. Im a Safety Jerk at a Trucking Company and have been in the industry for over 30 years. Including 12yrs as a commercial driver. On the BACK end of these ELD systems, Drivers do not escape or circumvent or fool the system at all. Its pretty basic and easy to discover all the shady activity. Why? Because a drivers only 2 options in life are to record it or to unplug (Or log off) and not record it. If you recorded it, its all there for people like me to look at. If you unplugged or logged off, the ABSENCE of data rats you out in that it only takes 1 second to figure out that "Unassigned" data also belongs to you. Logs arent just what a driver is stating. What a driver is stating has to match GPS locations and it has to match with what the ECM is also reporting. You cannot defeat GPS or the ECM. The fact that you deactivated them doesnt mean the data isnt there. It just means its not showing on your log. That is what drivers need to know. One last thing. SOME ELD systems will allow a driver to manually override the GPS location and type in their own location. All you have done is TYPE in a location that will NOT match what the GPS has recorded. Even without an ELD, there is a simple "old school" way to approach a driver guilty of this. Their log tells me where point "A" and point "B" are. (They are lying about one of those locations.) In this scenario they will very clearly be guilty of something. They are either guilty of undermining the GPS system by overwritting an incorrect location, or guilty of driving 97mph for 3hrs straight to get from what they claimed was their point A to their point B. Its simple math. The distance you said you drove in the time you said you drove it will simply not help your cause when you overwrite a GPS location. MY reaction to these situations is not pleasant at all. Im much more receptive of regular ol' honest HOS Violations than I am to attempts to undermine the system. Regular HOS violations are a normal part of trucking. It happens. People who attempt to get around the system to be shady will find their butt on a curb pretty quick with me. Why? 1. Nothing they tried even worked. 2. They put the company in a very libelous position. 3. Their appearance of being shady can make the entire company appear shady. ESPECIALLY if I as the Safety Jerk doesnt have an overwhelming response to it. Unplugging or logging off does... not... work. Not being caught doesnt mean it worked. It means the safety guy or cop didnt notice it. But the data is just sitting there waiting to rear its ugly head for a very long period of time.

Hello, my Samsara has been making my truck do crazy things, throw many codes for all my ecus, and as soon as I unplug it everything returns to normal. I used Samsara for a full year without any problems. What can I do? Is this a known issue that you are aware of? If so, how can I resolve it? I like Samsara, I use some other devices by Samsara too but I may need to try another provider if I can not resolve this issue.

Is it okay to add diesel treatment to the diesel tank and Lucas oil treatment to the reefer motor?
@evolveelevate2761
@evolveelevate2761 Год назад
The reefer engine operates similar to other diesel engines. If you feel comfortable with these items in your other engines, I would simply be sure to get the 'dosage' correct for the fuel tank (fuel treatment) and oil pan size (oil treatment).

So now what do you do? Pick up the bags that the grease were in and throw them away? Seems kinda messy. I have used them before and have cut a corner and squeezed it out and onto the 5th wheel like the guys in the shop do when it goes in for its service and it spread just as evenly. What you did right there was just plain lazy.
@evolveelevate2761
@evolveelevate2761 Год назад
Interesting feedback. The process in the video follows the instructions on the grease packets. They're designed to be used this way. Seems like in this scenario, lazy is quicker and gets the job done just as evenly as you said. Work smarter not harder my friend!
