Very nice for a community band. My highschool played this for state contests in 1993 - North Carolina. I was the top state/USA euphonium player. We didn't have bassoons in my great high school band. So I got to pick out and play key bassoon parts. Fun. A great piece!
Daniele Nevischi.
These musician/students are technically competent, but I feel their intonation is off. Then I realized that this ensemble has instrumental DUPLICATION on many, if not most, of the musical lines. Why ? I assume because the director wanted to be inclusive and have as many students as possible perform for experience. My intent in this comment is not to demean these fine musicians or be unduly critical. It's simply my observation as a former music student and professionally trained instrumentalist. In my OPINION, the tempo was a bit hurried.
Absolutely spectacular!!! One of the best performances of this piece I have ever heard! Bravo! The conductor and orchestra certainly have a clear idea of how Suppe wanted this piece to be played!
