Wonderful video footage from Soloman Sir Jones Film archive at Yale. What a cool dude Soloman Sir Jones was as a Baptist minister, amateur filmmaker! NICE.
Video actually brought tears to my eyes. Being someone who grew up in Tulsa and someone that remembers this loco from Tulsa's Mohawk Park as a little boy. It's heart warming to see it restored and resting back in it's home city.
I miss the old feed store we had where I live. It had everything and at a resonable price. We went there for all of our home repair items and animal needs. Sadly it got pushed out by Ace Hardware. Then Ace got pushed out by Home Depot and Tractor Supply.
I thought this was about skyway bridge in Hamilton Ontario! The video I saw years ago was filmed in Hamilton and Burlington and has a guy from Blue rodeo harmonizing with her
Hello! We're making a documentary film about a trans-continental run called Chris Cross The Nation. We would love to feature some of your footage in our piece to bring historical awareness to the Bunion Foot Race. Truly amazing. Our route covered the same terrain! Would you give us permission to use footage from this video? You can email us at ccthenation@gmail.com, or visit ccthenation.com learn more about our campaign.
Having worked at Cains Ballroom during College I'm not back to Tulsa until I see the Marquee lights of the Ballroom glowing against the backdrop of the Deco skyline.
finally bumped into the clip getting the 45 onto her final station, pretty sure there were some pucker up moments on some of those curves, pretty sure those weren't set up for a 4-8-4, noticed both roads being exra careful moveing her around, way different from prior clips showing display moves.
Started out at $10 hr. after taxes in 1997. There was no such thing as a routine night. I'm happy to have worked there some five years through under / grad school. My favorite part of the job was centered on the fans of every genre. When the same faces went in smiling and came out smiling all the more, heck, that was all the more 'pay'.
I am currently listening to a new book on CD about the race. That's what brought me here. It could be a great source for material on your documentary. It is called "CC Pyle's Amazing foot race" by Geoff Williams.
Hey Ron, I'm working with the Route 66 Marathon this year for their 10 year anniversary. I want to use your footage in our video promo and we would give you credits at the showing of your footage. Let me know if that's possible. - Ben
@FunnyGuy5051 you just turn into the canal from 1st street and follow the canal all the way over there stay on the left side of the canal though. its a dirt road so be careful because your car could easily get stuck in some parts if its muddy.
Terrific footage of an early 1950's Route 66 road trip! Love the old trucks, gas stations, motels, and especially the period cars seen in this movie. Thanks for sharing!
This is great footage. I have been thinking of doing a docu of this race. My grandmother was full blooded Cherokee and my father was born in the Ok territory. Do you know which number Payne wore?
I'm from the Chicago area and was traveling westbound of old U.S. 66 (OK 66) last year, 2011, and was greatly impressed by the exhibit of railroad (in particular the Frisco steam locomotive) and oil field equipment on display here. Three cheers and a star to everyone involved with putting together this collection! It really is an attention getter on OK 66.
