That way of counting is more popular in the US now too! It's also more accurate to the way the music is written, so it makes a ton of sense to count it that way as dancers.
Probably I'm the only one who counts left chic chic, right chic chic (left is on 1 for leads). Also I see very often, great dancers, dance on 1 a part of the song, then a little bit on 5, then again on 1. If this happens to me, is it a deadly sin or allowed?
As long as it works for you saying left, 1, doom, or whatever else is fine! It's about what works for you. As for your other question, Zouk doesn't have phrasing like Bachata does. However there has been more of a push in the last several years to make Zouk more like that. In my opinion, if it works for you and your partner on the dance floor, you're both having a good time, and you/those around you are safe then you're fine. Dance is a form of expression. The structure is there for you to use to communicate and connect, but not to lock you into a rigid set of moves. As you get more advanced you are expected to play around more, have fun, and express yourself. I hope this helps ♥
I loved the final tip. Just yesterday I dance with someone and she kind of stayed with me after I wentt home. So I wrote something in social media. Maybe it was my imagination. So just waiting to see if she replies. If not it wont be a problem or something awkward. Im glad I did not ask during our dance. Im just 10 classes into zouk btw. Thank you for this video. I would love to hear your thoughts on nice ways to be asked out on a date from a woman perspective. Cheers and zouk on
Great video. The biggest challenge I see for dance communities is dancers developing soft skills in tandem with the hard skills of being a great dancer. It's rare that I see someone who devotes an equal amount of time to both. And the first red flag I'll notice is how the dance community leader treats the dancers. Are they asking them questions about their dance? Are they making small talk? Or are they just focusing on their own goals.
I’m so sorry you’ve had such a tough time and glad you are starting to feel better. I sure miss our wonderful private lessons. I think your ideas are wonderful and am very happy you are sharing all of your zouk knowledge.
Awesome. I'm coming back to Zouk after a number of years. This evening I focused on trying to remember all of my old dance moves. Thank you for the reminder that that the goal is to be clear, and pleasant to dance with.
Holy crap my light was SO bright and I don't think the audio is actually from my good mic but is actually from the webcam 🤣 Thank you all for watching! I'll get the hang of this going live thing eventually. I'm just happy you're here on this journey with me 💜
