A RU-vid Channel started from a hobbyist for the hobbyist. Hopefully my videos can help you as a machinist/ creator grow. Wether that be helping you gain new skills on your lathe or inspire you with ideas to build or modify your equipment.
A little back story on me, so my skills and training all came from the motor vehicle trade where I progressed all the way to becoming a master technician. I have now targeted my skills towards machining and helping new machinists along with inventing and creating quirky inventions and designs. Every now and again you will get to see videos of my other passion mountain biking, alongside other outdoor hobbies. So if you like what you read please subscribe and turn notifications on.
Hello Joe, I’ve just finished fitting ‘ DRO ‘ to my wm180 lathe, when I move the main carriage up towards the chuck , few inches before I reach the chuck , the numbers on the.cross slide ( x) readout, start jumping around, as I bring the carriage back again a few inches , the numbers return to there normal ( static ) it’s if it’s caused by interference from the large electric motor ! There’s no problem with ‘ Y ‘.
reckon its worth chucking a VFD on this lathe or is too small? Im looking to get the Warco WM250. I already have a 180 but I think its motor is underpowered.
I forgot to congratulate you on your new baby boy!! Congratulations!! Hope everyone is healthy and good luck Joe!! Take care and we will be here when u can get here!!
Thank you Joe yeah we are all doing well and hopefully you won’t have to wait to long before the next video. Who knows in years to come baby boy might be in a video.
You’ve got your hands full with work and family. Anything that you can do on the channel will be appreciated. Getting shop time is sometimes challenging at times even under the best of circumstances
Hey Joe yeah you know it finding time can be a struggle. I’ll just have to start sneaking out and doing late night stream. Maybe a replacement for those evening talk shows I could do late night machining with joe 🤣
Nice video. I have essentially the same lathe, but branded Vevor, sold in the USA painted white. I just sent an email to warco to see if they will sell/ship to the USA as this is the easiest instal I have seen for this little lathe. Thanks for the info!
I would draw issue with you. A Mini-Lathe often referred to as 7 by 12, 7 by 14 or these days even 7 by 15 is a light lathe weighing in 12 centres around 37Kg The Warco WM-180 is an ultra short bed version of a full size model engineer's lathe weighing 60kg. Please do not try saying to me that it has a 90mm (3 1/2") centre height. The most popular Model Engineer lathe as made by Myford has a 3 1/2" centre height with a gap bed. I own one. So with all due respect, please do not equate your WM-180 with the far narrower bed true mini-lathes. It just isn't one of these machines. It is a far better lathe to start with. Not as good as an ML7-R or Super 7, both of which have a true precision front bearing as used on the best toolroom lathes. But then, a new Super 7 costs a lot more than the WM-180 & you only get what you pay for or are prepared to re-build using your own skill & money.
Honestly I wanted a larger machine and this one came up locally no real reason why I didn’t get a new warco. I would say however this machine seems to be built very well and extremely rigid.
I have got one of these on order - originally tried to get a used one like you but they where all either badly worn or expensive so ended up biting the bullet and investing in a new one from Colchester, it cost a small fortune but will hopefully last me a lifetime, I did consider a Master or a Triumph but they would have just taken up a bit too much room in the garage and obviously cost more! - Can’t wait for it to arrive!!
@@stevenhorgan8782 base price without options / extras is £15770ex vat for the 1000mm between centres model - all in with DRO, extras and delivery (plus a slight discount) mine came to £18900 ex vat) - it’s a lot of money but it’s also a lot of machine - will last me a lifetime and the quality is leaps and bounds beyond anything you’ll get from the Chinese importers - and Colchester are great to deal with - very good customer service / support. They come and level / commission it too - it arrived this Tuesday and I haven’t left the garage since 😂
@@stevenhorgan8782The base price for the 1000mm between centres model (which I got) is currently £15770ex vat before options / extras - after I added in the options I wanted (DRO / quick change tool posts holders / fixed and moving steadys / faceplate) and a slight discount mine came to £18444ex vat- it’s a lot of money but it’s a lot of lathe, is far superior to the Chinese import lathes and it will last me a lifetime so well worth it in my opinion. Colchester offer fantastic customer service / support too and as part of their delivery service they also locate it where you want it and send an engineer to commission / level / accuracy check it - it arrived this Tuesday and I haven’t left the garage since 😂 the Mrs doesn’t approve though 👀

If you want to really find out if your taper is good then you should blue it and make corrections. Just plonking it in and saying it feels fine is a shite procedure. I will not smash that button.
"what a lovely surface finish that is" Sorry, but it's not a great finish. As you do more grinding, you'll begin to see the defects. I think most of the problem here is aggressive cuts and large step over. Don't worry, you'll figure it out. Neat little machine.
Nothing wrong with those mini lathes, you just have to remember they are not 15" Clausings and work within their size limitations. Guy here did some nice modifications to his.
