And water in the aquifer supports the land. The original Alexandria Egypt sunk into the sea due to an earthquake & tsunami, July 21, 365 AD. New Orleans is also sinking due to land subsidence. I am 75 years old and Bangladesh has had flood/typhoon problems every year I can remember. It's a low land that gets wiped out with every catastrophe. Houston TX is also in a lowland area near the San Jacinto River. You agree it is suffering from land subsidence. Venice will be under water by 2100 when I will be 151 years old! Even my grandson will be 94 years old! Not a big worry!

What abiut Mombassa in Kenya? I've bin there and it's the mosquito capital of the world due to low water levels. Large parts of the city are on the verge of becoming swamps. The recent flooding in Dubai is also a result of cities being built only a few metres above sea level. When it rains, water has no where to run to and sits in the city for days waiting for evaporation to help lower water levels. I've live there and seen it many times.
