'98) transitioned @ 8 yo... Took me until 54 to realize I'm non-binary. Honestly i see both sides of this situation. Both sides hold strong beliefs about it. If you pick a side the other side demonizes you and if your try and stay neutral then both sides hate you for. It picking there side. It seems to be a loosing fight regardless of what side you choose.
My son wasn’t even tested until he was 22,even though he showed signs at a young age. They told me he had extremely high anxiety and would grow out of it and put him on 2 anxiety meds and a extra “emergency “ anxiety medication ( in case he knew he was going to be doing something that would make him feel more “anxious “. Finally, he was tested and confirmed that a lot of things that he experiences, that non Autistic people don’t, are things that are part of him being autistic: for example, he hears things louder than most people ( tv, when he watches it himself: he watches it on 1-2), he can hear every clock in the house ticking, he can hear the refrigerator running , he can hear lights that make humming sound. Different foods he can’t eat because of the texture. He gets uncomfortable ( has to leave a area if someone raises their voice or he thinks they have and also if there’s conflict on tv. He can’t be around large crowds for to long. These are a few things that affect him. Wanted to mention, there’s a book called,” Unmasking Autism “ that my son says is a great book. I also know other people who are part of the LGBTQIA + community and are Autistic that have read it and thought it was a good book.
