Kentucky was a whites-only team. Kentucky's coach, Adolf Rupp, insisted on whites-only basketball and accused Texas Western of "emptying the prisons." Texas Western's coach started five black players in the championship game just to make it clear that the whites-only era was over. This triumph of integrated Texas Western over segregated Kentucky marked the end of whites-only college basketball

Yup. Beautiful memories of my adolescent and young adult years of the 80's. I remember my mom used to let me ditch high school to watch NCAA tournament games UTEP played in. I now live in New Braunfels but will always be part of El Chuco.

Anybody see at 40:58 where that older man's right hand was...for a long time? With a little squeeze at 41:00. These days you'll see a quick pat....never a long one with a squeeze.
I was there as a BYU fan it broke my heart but I began to like UTEP and the Bear and Mr. Tim Hardaway the UTEP 2 STEP One of my favorite players of all time
This was UTEP's only win of the season. They lost 48-6 to Air Force who 👔d BYU for WAC title. Both Ohio State and BYU (Citrus Bowl opponents) had losses to teams with losing records. Ohio State lost to 5-6 Wisconsin
Unbelievable how far the Hoyas have fallen this year. 0-18 in the Big East Conference this year 2021-2022. Former Coach John Thompson's teams were always a beast.
Belated condolences to the Houston ohana. Loved watching ALL of Riley's teams play....NEVER Boring/Ho hum, ALWAYS Competitive/Fiery, just like their coach!-lol
sorry to hear he passed! i went to UH 89-93 and i lived in "Gym 2" at UH as a gym rat. your dad and a few other Warrior ballers like Smalls and Tim Shepherd used to come play pick-up with me and my friends. your dad was always super nice, super good to everyone. he will be missed. rest in paradise!
As a kid I walked down to five-points across the street from the Sears store to watch the players go by on Montana Street after they returned from winning the Championship. Never will forget it.
Easy answer. UTEP had already hung the skins in back-to-back-to-back games of #2 Ranked Georgetown to a blowout loss by 16 points and holding NBA first round Reggie WIlliams under 17 points, & Micheal Jackson under 12 points, #12 ranked Alabama to a blowout 14 -point loss with future NBA players (Buck Johnson, Mike Ansley, Jim Farmer and Derrick Mckey) and #7 ranked Ohio State in double OT holding the Nation's Leading Scorer at 29ppg to 9 points. And the kid playing guard for UTEP that held down Georgetown's Guard, Alabama's Jim Farmer and Ohio States Nations leading scorer Dennis Hopson to well below their averages did not play in the Bradley game. Someone didn't want Bradley to win that NCAA game, but in the end Bradley did and good on Bradley, but UTEP was a serious trap game. If UTEP had their guard, I think his name was Clanton, Hersey probably wouldn't have done so well and Bradley likely would have taken the LOSS. But yeah, good question.
