The vast majority of Budokai 1 being just...textures made it super easy to think up an HD Texture mod pack for it, and was something I considered doing back when I found out Dolphin had an option to rip the textures of the game *as you were playing it*. But *fuuuuck* that was a long process. Especially considering something as simple as the subtitles, or the P1/P2 sides of the character icons are their own textures.
there's actually a way to patch in some cheats into the .iso file of the games, back in the day i used to mod budokai 3 and infinite world, and i used some hex editing trick to modify the file (usually SLUS/SLESXX.XXXX where the Xs are the game's unique identifier number), examples for this is switching which model the game loads for certain forms, as well as which outfit of a character loads in the scouter's glass; which were their own separate model files, while the main body of the scouter was part of the character's model. interestingly budokai 2 works in the same manner but instead of scouters, it's actually the upper half of the head and the hair, such that the game loads goku's model and switches out the model of the top of his head when he transforms (including the eyes), with a little bit of trickery, you could import the budokai 2 head models into the scouter slot, modify their XYZ coordinates in HxD and create your own Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta or something like that. and of course with AFSExplorer and a little bit of elbow grease you could swap models, movesets and animations..etc. some youtubers including me used to create model swaps, remove the UI textures, and record the cinematics of the game, then cut and stitch the clips together into creative fights. i recommend you check KidMaJunior's channel, although most of his old videos were lost, some of his later and even recent videos are still up there, it's a treat! it's been almost 10 years since i last touched any of these games or the modding software for them, your video brought back a ton of memories haha
@@GoldenPSP go for it man! its been ages for me but i know there's now a budokai series modding discord and they've come leaps and bounds beyond what me and a few other colleagues could do back then, wish i had a link to throw in here but unfortunately i don't. if you do find it i'm sure they'll happily share all the info with you
Creating a spirit successor, without considering at the beginning of the development the feature that made them appealing. Brilliant. So cheap, lazy and greedy? Absolutely. The fact that they focused so much on overblown effects (which if I could tone down in a setting absolutely would) shows that the devs had completely different priorities during development...
are you stupid ? He went over the reasons why it wasn't feasible . it isn't the 2000s anymore, whether you like it or not focusing on online multiple was the right choice as it allows for cross console matches thus effectively increasing the player base for every one and not having 3 separate subsets per console.
Yes and no dude it is more than possible to render the information in Sparking via split screen, it was more than likely a business decision to scrap a full split feature
@@RestrictedRican yep, that's what the first part of the video was explaining! The success of Xenoverse more than likely meant a major push towards online functionality, rather than resources being put towards optimization for split screen. They could've done it (as we see with the Room of Spirit and Time) they just didn't allocate proper development time and resources towards it.
A+ work on your videos dude! Would love to see a breakdown of Dragon Ball Final Bout - the promo screenshots of the character models looked so much cleaner vs. the final product, have always been curious about that
It's funny you say that because I actually have a video recorded on literally this exact thing. Will probably be a few weeks before it comes out though.
If they really wanted to make the players happy, they could just allow all the maps but depending on the map allow us to toggle off certain things in the map destruction/interaction or even all of it. They honestly have no excuse for it. They could have added the Space map which for sure also is a simple one, yet they didn't. Also, online multiplayer is paid...
Maybe if we're lucky, "Sparking Zero 2" will have a standard vs mode, without such limitations. But thats a big *IF* ... so much for "next gen hardware."
I know that background music! From dbz kai on the ds. When i found that game out i was impressed that they made the budokai games on a handheld console
Oof....idk a bad first impression for me is mentioning matt mcmuscles...the dude blocked me just because i said wouldn't watch his wifes vids because the intros insulted a character i love...so i had to leave a dislike
This is the cringiest, neckbearding comment I've seen this year.. You need to clean the Cheetos and precum from your chin and head outside for some fresh air ..
I had that Gamepro issue back in the day! It sure did hype me up for the Legacy of Goku, which became my first DBZ game. Too bad in retrospect the game didn't live up to that hype gameplay-wise, but at least they made up for that with the two much improved sequels. I wonder if Budokai 3 was meant to be released for the Gamecube as well, since Budokai 1 and 2 were. I say Revenge of King Piccolo is underrated too. There just aren't enough games based on OG Dragon Ball compared to DBZ games, heh.
I always wondered why Budokai 3 never made the jump to GameCube, I suspect it had to do with it being years into the GameCube's life and it not being very successful. They probably determined it wasn't worth it.
