I'm a vintage transport enthusiast from the south of England (mainly interested in railways, buses and commercial vehicles). Back in the 1990s I filmed a lot of video at various transport events / heritage railways etc, and for much of the intervening time those videos have sat in a box collecting dust and taking up space. I'm now really enjoying being able to digitise and share them - something I could never have envisaged when I originally filmed them. The quality isn't great - I didn't have a particularly expensive camera - but hopefully they have some historic interest.
Used to have a model of that second rig - the whole thing, tractor unit, trailer and tank (with working tracks). Can't remember if it was Dinky or Corgi. All die cast. My brother and I had one each...used to 'drive' them on carpet round the house but also in the garden including on mud tracks we dug. Fun times.
Massively rebuilt since then obviously, and not for the better I say. Also noticed the HST sets haven't been strengthened with an additional standard class coach at the time too.
Some great shots here that just don't exist anymore. At 10:10 there is the beginning of The Hellwell Bay Chalets/Caravan site and just after that at 11:30 there is Watchet Docks in its' final year of being a functioning Port with all its' Cranes & Lorries.... Check out those people taking pictures right next to the tracks at Dunster! (21:50). Then at 22:30 you can still see the Buildings on the Seafront and the Lower slopes of North Hill beyond them!.. all hidden now by a Huge Social Housing development. How wonderful!! I lived in Dittisham up river 1993-96 then Dartmouth 1996-2001 and I worked at the (then affordable) Dart Marina hotel which is the other side of the higher ferry slipway at 9:33. I was so privileged to work in this town and work in a place where we would hear the sound of the trains whistle echo across the river, daily, from my desk. This is how I remember it. Before it became a London suburb and out of reach of anyone local, or not rich ❤❤ I always said back then that we were a friendly informal 3-star hotel, with a 5-star view. Why did I leave? Sometimes I wonder 😂 I was offered the managers job but decided against it….. a lot people said it was better to live in Kingswear as then you got to look at Dartmouth from your house!
Great open day. They wouldn't allow this nowadays, all the busy bodies would be telling everyone you are not allowed to take photos/H&S red tape everywhere. I expect that Riverside now looks like an overgrown garden like the rest of the rail network today.
HAPs worked Reading-Waterloo and Bagshot lines until route was dominated by VEPs and sometimes CIGs. The VEPs occasionally took in the Windsor Riverside line too, but it was usually 455s. There was a preserved SUB, no. 4732.
I suspect it might have been - Amberley was certainly used as a location in that film (hence the "Main Strike Mine" sign above the tunnel). Someone more knowledgeable about Amberley might be able to confirm that.
It most certainly is! Pinewood Studios requested use of the V skips and two Hudson Hunslet locos. Both the V skips and both locos can be seen in use at gala and industrial days and the locos are used on the regular passenger service, amongst a large variety of other locos and stock. I'll give you a like Martin. Anybody who digitises their holiday films and posts them to RU-vid 33 years later deserves a like regardless of content. That it is almost 20 minutes of steam trains and of such high quality is deserving of many more "likes".
Cant help notice even back in 2000 they were still a fair few old fords and vauxhalls on the rd inc sierras, cavaliers, novas etc all but gone now apart from those that collect them

Great to see this video. Brings back many memories. Also interesting to see how the track layout has changed over the past 30 years. We used to take our son there in that era (sadly, no longer with us) and he loved those visits. Thanks for posting.
It's so nice to see sister Dora (31430) working back then. She's now still running on the spa valley railway in Kent and she gave me great haulage at they're diesel gala in the summer . Wonderful . Toffee apples all round -bud the painter-
